The invention relates to a process for the spraying of a liquid by means of a gas into a fluidized bed, in which process said spraying is conducted by means of a two-phase spraying device, consisting of a liquid feed tube 21 fitted concentrically in a gas feed tube 26, in which device the end face of the liquid feed tube and the inner wall of the part of the gas feed tube extending beyond this end face are chamfered at an angle of 70-90° so that between this face and this wall there is a conical channel, and this inner wall connects, via a rounded area, to the inner wall of an outflow channel fitted coaxially in respect of the liquid feed tube, of which channel the inside diameter is 1 to 1.6 times the inside diameter of the outflow opening of the liquid feed tube and 2.5 to 10 times the curvature radius of the rounded area. To prevent erosion due to fluctuations in the process or to small changes in the design of the sprayer the invention is characterized in that the outflow channel 31, seen into the direction of flow, is conically narrowed.

A process for the separation of substantially pure NH 3 and substantially pure CO 2 from a mixture containing NH 3 , CO 2 and water is disclosed. In this process NH 3 is separated by rectification in an NH a -separation zone (3), the remaining liquid phase is fed to a CO 2 -separation zone (18) where gaseous CO 2 is separated by rectification, and the resulting liquid phase is fed from the bottom of this zone to a desorption zone (10), where virtually all NH 3 and CO 2 still contained in this liquid phase are separated as a gaseous mixture. To improve the efficiency of the separation and to decrease the sensitivity of the process to fluctuations in the feed to the NH 3 -separation zone (3), the process is characterized in that so much gaseous CO 2 or a gaseous mixture containing CO 2 is fed to the bottom of the NH 3 -separation zone (3) that the composition of the liquid phase released in the bottom of the NH a -separation zone (3) is not on the side of the boundary line rich in NH 3 . Preferably also an amount of inert gas is introduced together with the CO 2 .

Waste water is nitrified and denitrified in an activated sludge process by passing the waste water successively and continuously through successive aerobic and anaerobic zones. The process is characterized by a short cycle time, defined as the time elapsed from the point the waste water enters an aerobic zone until the waste water passes through the adjacent anaerobic growth zone and enters the next successive growth zone, not exceeding 3 minutes and preferably about one minute. At the same time, the concentration of dissolved molecular oxygen should be more than 0.5 mg/l in at least 40% and less than 0.1 mg/l in at least 20 % of the basin, with a sludge load not in excess of 0.2 g BZV 20 5 /(g sludge, day).
