One of the advantages of the sensors is that the same can be directly arranged on the part to be measured (2), wherein the heating occurs regardless of the electric current. The sensors are made of lithium tantalate with an X cross-section and orientations of Y + 112° and Y + 130° for the two resonators thereof. A differential measure is made for cancelling time variations due to the substrate ageing.

The invention provides a commutation circuit being connectable to a pair of opposed switch elements in the tap changer and a tap winding of the transformer, the commutation circuit being operable to establish a resonant current upon closure of a non-conducting switch element to commutate off an arcing switch element . The commutation circuit may be incorporated into a diverter for use with a conventional Selector or may form part of a complete tap changer.
