摘要： An apparatus for currency discrimination comprises first and second stationary scanheads, disposed on opposite sides of a bill transport path, for scanning respective first and second opposing surfaces of a bill traveling along the bill transport path and for producing respective output signals. The bill travels along the transport path in the direction of a predetermined dimension of the bill. A memory stores master characteristic patterns corresponding to associated predetermined surfaces of a plurality of denominations of genuine bills. Sampling circuitry samples the output signals associated with the respective first and second opposing surfaces of the scanned bill. A signal processor is programmed to determine which one of the first and second opposing surfaces corresponds to the associated predetermined surfaces of the plurality of denominations of genuine bills. The processor then correlates the output signal associated with the one of the first and second opposing surfaces corresponding to the associated predetermined surfaces with the master characteristic patterns to identify the denomination of the scanned bill.

摘要： A system for processing mixed coins including coins from a first coin set and coins from a second coin set is set forth. The coin processing system includes a coin set discrimination device including a coin input region in which the mixed coins are placed. The discrimination device includes means for discriminating between coins of the first coin set and coins of the second coin set and means for transporting coins to a first exit region and a second exit region. Coins from the first coin set are transported to the first exit region. Coins from the second coin set are transported to the second exit region. The processing system also includes first and second coin sorters that receive coins from the first exit region and the second exit region, respectively. The first and second coin sorters sort and count coins of the first and second coin sets, respectively.

摘要： A multi-pocket currency evaluation device (10) for receiving a stack of currency bills and rapidly evaluating all the bills in the stack. The device has an input receptacle (12) for receiving a stack of bills to be evaluated and a plurality of output receptacles (217a, 217b) for receiving the bills after the bills have been evaluated. A transport mechanism transports the bills, one at a time, from the input receptacle to one of the plurality of output receptacles along a transport path (240). A discriminating unit (402) evaluates the bills and determines certain information concerning the bills. A control panel includes a touch screen for displaying the information concerning the bills and for receiving operational instructions from a user. A controller coupled to the touch screen and the discriminating unit causes the discriminating unit to operate in any of several operating modes in response to operational instructions from the user. The pocket(s) to which the bills are delivered, as well as starting and stopping conditions of the device, are determined according to the operating mode selected by the user.

摘要： An apparatus and method for loading software changes into a processor-based coin sorting machine. A flash card (59) having a memory remotely programmed with a second software code is adapted to beremovably electrically coupled to the system controller (51) of the coin sorting machine. Insertion of the flash card causes the initial code in the resident memory (58) of the machine to become erased and replaced with the second software code. The flash card may thereafter be removed from the machine and used to load software changes into other machines. Remote programming of the flash card with the second software code may be achieved by electrically coupling the flash card to a first coin sorting machine having a resident memory containing the second software code, causing the second software code to be copied from the resident memory of the first coin sorting machine to the flash card memory.

摘要： An apparatus and method for loading software changes into a processor-based coin wrapping machine (98). In one embodiment, a flash card (135) having a memory remotely programmed with a second software code is adapted to be removably electrically coupled to the system controller (128) of the coin wrapping machine (98) causing initial code in the resident memory of the machine to become erased and replaced with the second software code. The flash card may thereafter be removed from the machine and used to load software changes into other machines. In an alternative embodiment, the flash card may remain electrically coupled to the coin wrapping machine. In this embodiment, insertion of the flash card causes the machine to execute the second software code, but the initial code is not erased or replaced. Upon removal of the flash card, the machine does not retain the second software code but will revert to execution of the initial code.

摘要： An improved method and apparatus for discriminating between currency bills of different denomination uses an optical sensing (18) and correlation technique based on the sensing of bill reflectance characteristic obtained by illuminating and scanning a bill along its narrow dimension. A series of detected reflectance signals are obtained by sampling and digitally processing, under microprocessor control, the reflected light at a plurality of predefined sample points as a currency bill (17) is moved across an illuminated strip (24) with its narrow dimension parallel to the direction of transport of the bill. The sample data is subjected to digital processing, including a normalizing process, whereby the reflectance data represents a characteristic pattern that is unique for a given bill denomination and incorporates sufficient distingishing features between characteristic patterns for discriminating between different currency denominations.
