    摘要: A seal (10) obstructs the migration of particulates and precipitation into a pipe fusion chamber through its pipe stick entry and pipeline exit passages. Sheets of cloth (21) serially overlap the anticipated center axis of a pipe stick/pipeline which will pass through the machine. The outer edge (23) of each sheet is pleated and fixed to a frame (11) contiguous with the perimeter of the passage (E
    in ) and the inner edge of each sheet is gathered on an elastic band (37). When a face of a pipe stick/pipeline pushes the sheets away from the frame (11), the pleats (27) and bands (37) cooperate to allow the inner edges (23) of the sheets (21) to slide over the face and hug substantially the entire outer circumference of the pipe stick/pipeline.

    摘要: A fusion machine (10) which can be top-loaded on very large polyolefin pipes and pipelines has jaws which consist of an upper half jaw (63/163) and lower left and right (65/165) complemental jaws which pivot on the half jaw. Left and right actuators (110) connected between the complemental jaws and the half jaw (61) operate in one direction to cause the complemental jaws to rotate to an opened condition in which the upper half jaw (61) can be lowered onto and lifted from the pipes to be fused and in the other direction to cause the complemental jaws to rotate to a closed condition in which the pipes to be fused are gripped so substantially around their circumferences as to resist their deformation from round during manipulation by the machine (10). The top-loading machine minimizes the need for heavy equipment to load and unload pipe to and from the fusion machine (10).

    摘要: For use in loading heavy sticks of plastic pipe (P) into a pipe fusion machine, a pipe storage rack (10; 310) with hydraulically powered pipe stick dispensers (330) and stands (360, 390) allows sticks of pipe (P) stored on the rack (10; 310) to roll gravitationally onto a rocking V-shaped dispenser cam (331) disposed between the rack (10; 310) and the fusion machine loading path (T) for one-stick-at-a-time loading onto powered track and roller stands (360, 390) which enable Cartesian manipulation of the stick (P) into the fusion machine. The cam (331) is adjustable to suit pipe stick (P) diameters ranging from 20" (50.8 cm) to 48" (121.92 cm). Many sticks can be stored at one time, releasing heavy lifting equipment and operators to work elsewhere. The process requires only one operator using a pendant controller and the pipe sticks (P) are handled by heavy equipment only when being loaded onto the racks (10; 310).
