    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparing a reaction product containing aluminium, obtained during the production of isopulegol, by the cyclization of citronellal in the presence of complex compounds, said product containing at least one ligand of formula (I), in which: Ar1, Ar2, Ar3, Ar4 are selected from C6-C15 aryl groups or C2-C15 heteroaryl groups; R1, R2, R3, R4 are selected from H, C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 perfluoroalkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, C7-C12 aralkyl, halogen, SiR5bR6bR7b, C6-C10 aryl, NR8bR9b, SR10b, or NO2; and R1 or R2 and/or R3 or R4 together with A can form an aromatic or non-aromatic cycle. According to said method, a) the reaction product containing aluminium is separated by distillation, b) the bottom product that is poor in isopulegol is brought into intimate contact with an aqueous base and c) the ligand of formula (I) is isolated from the organic phase, preferably by crystallization.
