A dual catheter (360) for delivery of a two component sealant (22) such as a fibrinogen, has coaxial inner and outer catheters (372, 364) respectively, each of which conveys a sealant component (fibrinogen or thrombin). The dual catheter (360) has a mixing volume at its distal end to mix the sealant immediately prior to delivery. The inner catheter (366) is reciprocally movable to clear clogs from the mixing volume. Optional features include a channeled plug-like tip (366) to the inner catheter, and a malleable or resilient material at the distal tip (362) to resist tissue damage.

This invention is an applicator particularly suited for dispensing a range of different tissue sealants, for example fibrin sealants with different setting times, conditioning agents or therapeutic agents, having a manual selector (48) for user to select different outputs. Various differential drive mechanisms are disclosed for selectively dispensing different concentrations of fluids optionally with internal mixing from two or three more fluid sources, such as fluid reservoirs (24, 26, 28) carried by an applicator. Interchangeable reservoirs, and the option of controlling concentration by discharging one reservoir to waste, are also disclosed.

A sealant applicator suitable for dispensing a coagulable sealant, for example a two-component fibrin sealant mixed in the applicator, employs impulse clearing to remove residual coagulated or coagulating material from the dispensing pathway (12, 18) and mixing chamber, if present. Impulses may be generated by manual application of a clearing member (28, 38) such as a plunger (28, 38) which can enter into the dispensing pathway (12, 18) to engage, dislodge and discharge residuals or can generate a gas impulse to impact the residuals to similar effect. A cleaning valve having a clearing port can be operated by movement of the clearing member (28, 38) to provide access to the dispensing pathway (12, 18).
