There is provided a method for knitting a knitted fabric capable of forming a decoration unit of a novel shape using a flat knitting machine. A decoration unit (2) is formed on a surface of a base knitted fabric portion (1), the decoration unit (2) being configured by a lower edge (2D) extending in a knitting width direction of the base knitted fabric portion (1), a left edge (2L) extending in a direction intersecting the knitting width direction from a left end of the lower edge (2D), and a right edge (2R) extending in a direction intersecting the knitting width direction from a right end of the lower edge (2D). The lower edge (2D) is configured by a cross-over yarn extending in the knitting width direction of the base knitted fabric portion (1). The left edge (2L) and the right edge (2R) are configured by stitches stretched in a direction intersecting the knitting width direction. The cross-over yarn and the stitches are knitted all at once.

It is an object is to provide a flatbed knitting machine having more options of knitting operation and providing excellent knitting efficiency in the knitting operation in a mixed manner. An entry-side needle selection mechanism 11 is configured to act on and guide a selector 7 of a knitting needle 3 along one of paths 7A, 7H, 7B and perform selection out of an A-position, an H-position, and a B-position for a selection butt 6b of a select jack 6 of the knitting needle 3 as a first target of acting by a cam system 2. An engaging part of the selector 7 and the select jack 6 are replaceable. A select jack lowering cam 18 lowers the select jack 6 from the A-position to the H-position. A selection of the A-position or the H-position by the entry-side needle selection mechanism 11 allows the selection of a F-position which is closer to a needle bed gap than the A-position in a direction of advancing to the needle bed gap, in addition to the H-position and the A-position, by an intermediate needle selection mechanism 12, resulting in providing excellent knitting efficiency with a larger number of types of available knitting operation in one knitting course.

There is provided a cleaning apparatus for a needle bed of compound needles that is capable of reliably and efficiently clean a needle bed of a flatbed knitting needle machine equipped with compound needles. A needle bed 2, removed from a flatbed knitting machine and attached to a cleaning bath 3 of a cleaning apparatus for needle bed 1, is cleaned with a liquid such as a cleaning liquid or water sprayed from a nozzle 4. The nozzle 4 is attached to a head 5 that is movable along the surface of the needle bed 2. The compound needles are accommodated in needle grooves of the needle bed 2. While holding positions of sliders, spraying the liquid from the nozzle 4 onto butts for driving needle bodies to move the needle bodies with respect to needle grooves makes it possible to clean the needle bed 2 reliably and efficiently, switching relative positions of the needle bodies and the sliders.

A method for knitting a shoe upper capable of forming a new stretch preventing section different from a conventional stretch preventing section, and a shoe upper obtained through such knitting method are provided. The shoe upper including a base knitted fabric portion (1F) that covers a foot of a wearer is knitted. In the knitting, a stretch preventing section (20) configured by a knitted fabric of a plain structure is knitted, where one end in a wale direction is connected to the base knitted fabric portion (1F) and another end in the wale direction is not connected to the base knitted fabric portion (1F). The stretch preventing section (20) in which one end is fixed and the other end is not fixed is curled to a tubular shape. The curled stretch preventing section (20) is thicker than the other portions, thus suppressing the stretch of the shoe upper.
