To provide a method for manufacturing a spring having a painted surface, the method being capable of reducing a time period required for performing a paint baking process and low temperature annealing process while performing these processes at the same time. This manufacturing method has a step of heating the spring to a predetermined temperature (S12) and a step of spraying paint onto a surface of the spring and baking the paint while cooling the heated spring in accordance with a predetermined cooling pattern (S 14, S16). The predetermined temperature in the heating step and the cooling pattern obtained in the painting step are set such that a predetermined low temperature annealing process is performed on the spring in the heating and painting steps.

A method for heating the entire spring including the vicinities of electrodes by a single electrical heating process is provided. This method has a step of causing at least a pair of electrodes to make contact with a spring, and a step of electrically heating the spring by applying a voltage between the pair of electrodes contacting the spring. Each of the electrodes has a first part 18a having a first electric resistance value and a second part 20 having a second electric resistance value higher than the first electric resistance value. The second part 20 may have an electric resistance value approximately the same as that of the spring to be heated. When electrically heating the spring, the temperature of the second part is raised to approximately the same temperature as that of the spring, thereby heating the vicinities of the sections of the spring that come into contact with the electrodes.

The present invention is directed to a method for producing a helical spring which comprises the steps of providing a plurality of parameters for defining a desired configuration of a target helical spring, setting at least bending positions and twisting positions on the basis of the plurality of parameters, and bending and twisting the element wire at the positions set in response to every predetermined feeding amount of the element wire, to produce the target helical spring. The parameters includes number of coils, coil diameter and lead of the target helical spring. At least the bending positions may be adjusted in response to the cycle of alternating diameters between a local maximum diameter and a local minimum diameter of the target helical spring.
