The invention relates to a valve arrangement (13) for controlling the flow of pressurized-air, water and/or other media to at least one hand-operated tool (6-9), preferably an instrument for dental work. The valve arrangement (13) includes for each tool (6-91 a valve for each medium. According to the invention, each valve comprises a first valve part (14) and a second valve part (15), those valve parts being arranged for relative movement between an open and a closed position under the influence of actuating means (11,12) and further comprises a flexible hose (16) connected at respective ends to the two first and second valve parts (14,15). When the valve parts (14,15) occupy their valve-closed position, the part of the hose (16) located between the two valve parts is folded so as to exhibit a flow-inhibiting fold or kink (30), whereas when the valve parts (14,15) occupy their valve-open positions the flow-inhibiting fold (30) is no longer present in the hose (16).

The replaceable module allows a particular laser module to be removed from the handpiece assembly and replaced with another laser module. The handpiece assembly further includes the handpiece configured to receive the electromagnetic energy from the laser module and to direct the electromagnetic energy to the target surface.

The open free end of the tubular body may then be at least partly closed and subsequently reopened while the compressor (10) is still operating, so as to temporarily expand the resilient wall part.
