Für Ölschlamm, der einen Wassergehalt bis zu 80% aufweisen kann und auf Schiffen beispielsweise von Separatoren und Filtern zur Reinigung der Brenn- und Schmierstoffe anfällt, wird eine Aufbereitung durch Verminderung des Wassergehaltes und damit Erhöhung des Heizwertes für die Verbrennung vorgesehen, In einem durch Abwärme beheizbaren Behälter wird der Ölschlamm einem Unterdruck ausgesetzt, der zwischen 0,04 und 0,4 bar beträgt und auf eine Temperatur erwärmt, die 15 bis 30°C über dem Siedepunkt von Wasser bei demselben Unterdruck liegt. Außerdem wird der Ölschlamm laufend unten aus dem Behälter entnommen und über eine Umwälzpumpe oben in den Behälter gegen eine Prallplatte wieder eingespeist. Der sich hierbei abscheidende Wasserdampf wird über einen Kondensator abgezogen. In einer Leitung, durch die der Ölschlamm umgewälzt wird, ist eine Meßsonde zur Messung des jeweils noch vorhandenen Wassergehaltes angeordnet. Beträgt der Wassergehalt weniger als 30%, so wird der Ölschlamm in einen Vorratstank weggeleitet. Etwa gleichzeitig wird aus einem Schlamm-Sammeltank unbehandelter Ölschlamm in den oberen Teil des Behälters nachgefüllt, so daß der Behälter stets mit einer Mindestmenge von Ölschlamm gefüllt ist.

A process for producing mesophase pitch from high-temperature coal tar comprises: removing salts and quinoline insoluble fraction from a high-temperature coal tar to obtain a decant oil; using the decant oil as a hydrogenation feedstock, or pre-distilling the decant oil to obtain a residue with a boiling point higher than 230°C and formulating the residue into a hydrogenation feedstock; catalytic hydrorefining the hydrogenation feedstock to obtain a hydrofined oil; distilling the hydrofined oil to obtain hydrogenated pitch; and subjecting the hydrogenated pitch to the thermal polymerization to obtain the mesophase pitch. The process has features such as an easily controllable degree of hydrogenation, complete removal of impurities, good raw material flowability, not tending to form the carbon deposition and the coking during the process, and not tending to jam the reactor. The product has a high content of mesophase pitch, a low softening point and a low impurity content.

The unexpectedly beneficial blends of asphalts are formed in part by including an effective amount of a Napo crude oil or crude fraction in the feed used to form the asphalt fraction. For some asphalt blends, including an effective amount of a Napo crude in the feed can allow for production of an asphalt with a low temperature performance grade that is lower than the predicted value by at least 0.5° C., such as at least 0.75° C. or at least 1.0° C.

The process for treating a hydrocarbon-based heavy residue (1), in particular bituminous residues with a high asphaltene content, comprises the following operations: A) bringing the heavy residue to be treated to a temperature within the range of 325-500° C.; B) subjecting the heavy residue to be treated to a substantially adiabatic expansion in an environment at a pressure equal to or lower than about 0.1 bara, and at a temperature equal to or lower than 450° C., so as to separate, from the heavy residue to be treated, a first less volatile fraction (17) having a boiling point at atmospheric pressure equal to or higher than 540° C. and whose solid and/or anhydrous residue prevalently contains asphaltenes insoluble in pentane and/or other residues insoluble in tetrahydrofuran. It allows a more effective flushing, and also to actuate the process in an extremely simple plant and without centrifugations.
