Device and method for controlling the air leakage at a rotary heat exchanger (3) arranged in an air handling unit (4), which rotary heat exchanger (3) comprises an axially supported rotatable rotor (5). The rotor (5) is provided in an enclosing rotor chamber (6), which rotor chamber (6) comprises an air volume (16) surrounding the rotor (5). The invention is characterized by that the pressure of the air volume (16) in the rotor chamber (6) is ensured to always be equal to, or at least almost equal to, the pressure in an outdoor air chamber (25), by that a pressure compensation means (27) equalizes the pressures between the chambers (6, 25). This together with ensuring that the pressure in the outdoor air chamber (25 ) is the highest pressure, by that the pressures within the air handling unit (4) are controlled and regulated by means of measurement devices and a control device to make sure that the pressure in the outdoor air chamber (25) is the highest pressure at all operating points, whereby the eventual leakage around the rotor (5) always occurs from the rotor chamber (6) in direction towards the other chambers (21, 22, 26).

This invention provides a heat exchanger (2) comprising an elongate heat exchange element (4). The heat exchange element (4) has a substantially cylindrical structure with a first end and a second end. The length of the element (4) is greater than the diameter. A plurality of elongate flow paths extend between the first end and the second end. A first inlet (8) and a second outlet (14) are disposed in the first end and a first outlet (10) and a second inlet (12) are disposed in the second end. The first inlet (8) and first outlet (10) define a first flow path and the second inlet (12) and second outlet (14) define a second flow path. The heat exchanger is provided with a means (16, 18) for rotating the cylindrical structure and rotation of the cylindrical structure (4) moves the elongate flow paths from the first flow path to the second flow path.

A method by which water may be extracted from the air even without a supply of electricity from a power source or even without a supply of fuel, as well as an apparatus therefor, is disclosed. The apparatus used for the method for extracting water from the air comprises at least a rotatably mounted hygroscopic moisture-absorbing rotor having at least one region through which air can pass in the direction of thickness thereof; a passage for regeneration through which air for regeneration is circulated, of which both ends are opened at the opposing two surfaces of a regeneration region, respectively, the regeneration region being a part of the moisture-absorbing rotor, at which the moisture-absorbing rotor that absorbed moisture is regenerated; and a drain hole for taking out condensed water from the passage for regeneration.

An improved method and apparatus for indirect evaporative cooling of a fluid stream to substantially its dew point temperature. Plate heat exchanger has perforations (11) and channels (3, 4 and 5) for gas on a dry side and wet side. There is a trough formed in a portion of the plate that temporarily holds evaporative fluid which is in contact with the wick material on the wet side surface of the plate. The evaporative fluid flows through the trough by way of liquid perforations into the next trough. The trough of a plate with a wet side up, the liquid perforations are on the side creating a reservoir to wet the opposing wick materials. As streams flow across the dry side (9), transferring heat to the plate. Working gas stream (2) flows across the dry side and through perforations to channels (5) on wet side (10), which it then cools by evaporative cooling as well as conductive and radiative transfer of heat from plate.

A regenerative energy and/or mass exchange assembly (100) is provided. The regenerative assembly (100) comprises: an exchange media (110); a first flow path to pass a fluid stream (10) through the exchange media; at least a second flow path to pass a further fluid stream (20 20') through the exchange media; and at least one fluid stream diverter (200) to divert the different flow paths to pass the respective fluid streams through different regions of the exchange media. A method for operating the regenerative assembly is also provided.

A sealing device for a rotary adsorber is disclosed. The sealing device includes a sealing material, a mounting plate, a connecting portion, a rod member, and a spring. The sealing material is slidably interposed between a partitioning frame of the rotary adsorber and the mounting plate. The connecting portion fixes the mounting plate to the partitioning frame. The rod member is fixed to the connecting portion. The spring is interposed between the sealing material and the connecting portion.

A gas dryer comprises a housing, and a drying drum in the housing which is permeable to allow flow of gas through the drum between its opposite first and second ends. A first flow guide is located at the first end of the drum and a second flow guide is located at the second end of the drum. The first and second flow guides define between them a primary region of the drum for a primary gas flow to flow through the drum, and a secondary region of the drum for a secondary gas flow to flow through the drum, and are mounted for rotation about the drum axis so that boundaries between the primary and secondary regions rotate around the drum. The permeable structure of the drying drum and the flow guides allow the primary and secondary gas flows to flow through their respective regions of the drum without significant mixing.
