A partition member (17) defines in each of the rotors an adsorbing zone (S) and a reproducing zone (U) depending on the positional relationship of rotation between the partition member (17) and the rotor corresponding to the partition member. In the adsorbing zone (S), the adsorbing agent removes moisture and organic matter from air passing through the adsorbing zone. In the reproducing zone (U), the adsorbing agent deteriorated through the absorption of moisture and organic matter is reproduced using heated dry air. Air sucked from a transportation space (10) of a treating apparatus (1) is passed through a circulation route (20), sequentially passed through the adsorbing zones of both rotors, and then returned to the space as the aimed space. Portion of the clean and dry air passed through the adsorbing zones is introduced in an air discharge route (21), heated by a heater, and passed through the reproducing zones of both rotors.

The flow pressures are measured and the difference in pressure between selected chambers is read-off or calculated to determine appropriate valve settings. A gas dryer comprises a housing, and a drying drum in the housing which is permeable to allow flow of gas through the drum between its opposite first and second ends. A first flow guide is located at the first end of the drum and a second flow guide is located at the second end of the drum. The first and second flow guides define between them a primary region of the drum for a primary gas flow to flow through the drum, and a secondary region of the drum for a secondary gas flow to flow through the drum, and are mounted for rotation about the drum axis so that boundaries between the primary and secondary regions rotate around the drum. The permeable structure of the drying drum and the flow guides allow the primary and secondary gas flows to flow through their respective regions of the drum without significant mixing.

There is described a method of drying air with the aid of a rotor (6) which rotates continuously in a housing (2) and which incorporates moisture-sorbent means. The housing (2) has mounted therein a casing (12) which is located on the low-pressure side of the rotor and provided with heat-emitting devices, for instance electrical elements (15), for delivering radiant heat directly to the rotor interior. The heat required for regeneration is therewith delivered at high temperature, which increases the heat yield. That part of the rotor (7) which is normally the most difficult to regenerate is therewith heated to a temperature of 250-300°C. Since the volume of regeneration air is much smaller than normal, the air is heated to a temperature which is much higher than normal in all parts of the rotor, so as to result in effective removal of the moisture present. The invention also relates to an air dryer by means of which the method can be put into effect.
