摘要:
Methods and apparatus for employing a communications system with actively connects communicating entities to mediate transactions. Disclosed are general methods and apparatus for mediating transactions, methods and apparatus permitting information from one transaction to be used in other transactions, and methods and apparatus for performing credit card transactions in which the vendee need not disclose his credit to the vendor. An implementation of a system for performing credit card transactions in a stored program-controlled telephone switching network is also disclosed.
摘要:
A method and an apparatus are disclosed to enable a public switching network to limit the geographical calling area of calls charged to a credit card. When a credit card call is originated, the called party number is included as part of the credit card validation request. The called party number is compared against numbers stored in a call restriction table 320 previously entered by the owner of the credit card. The network accepts or denies credit card calls as a result of this comparison.

A public access network operating in conjunction-with existing telecommunication lines to permit a caller holding a machine-readable credit card to make calls from any local station included in the network without having to deposit coins and without human intervention. The network is constituted by a management and master control central linked to a group of satellites installed at different locations, such as airport. terminals. At every installation, the satellite services a plurality of local telephone stations each provided with a standard telephone set, a card reader adapted to scan the caller's credit card to derive thereform a digital signal identifying the card, its number and expiration date, this signal being applied to a local processor to determine whether the card is acceptable to the network. If the card is rejected, the call is terminated, and if accepted, the card data is then transferred from the local processor to a verifying processor at the satellite to test the card number against a stored table of invalid numbers. If the card passes this test the local processor is so advised, the processor then activating the telephone set to permit the caller to dial. The number dialed is received by an intelligent switch at the satellite which connects the set to an appropriate transmission line to put the call through. Central functions not only is to update the invalid card tables in the satellites and to manage the operation of the intelligent switches, but also to extract thereform the details of calls made from the local stations and the related credit card data to generate a billing record for submission to the credit card companies.

This invention concerns a process in which the call number of a subscriber who is to be under surveillance is characterized by an indication given to a subscriber authorized to monitor calls and a three-way conference call is set up involving the subscriber under surveillance, a second party calling or being called, and a third part authorized to monitor the calls.

Remote maintenance of a private branch exchange (N) connected to a public exchange (VSt) by a servicing unit (SPC) which is also connected to the public exchange (VSt) is possible only if there is a regular exchange of information between the private branch exchange (N) and a master terminal (LS). In the course of this information exchange, the master terminal (LS) forwards its own call number to the private branch exchange (N), the call number being used to effect a regular connection to the master terminal (LS) which is also connected to the public exchange (VSt). In the event that the call number is no longer forwarded to the private branch exchange (N), the latter can no longer effect a regular connection to the master terminal (LS), and the private branch exchange (N) is thus closed to remote maintenance which might be initiated by a servicing unit (SPC).

A method of mediation of traffic across a particular interface between the Advanced Intelligent Network operated by a local exchange carrier and an outside service provider is disclosed. The particular interface is defined between an application by a non-local exchange carrier service provider for some form of enhanced telephone service requiring use of the Advanced Intelligent Network and a shared execution environment interpreter on the other side of the interface. Mediation is conducted by the shared execution interpreter that is run on a local exchange carrier operated service control point. The shared execution interpreter enforces sufficient rules so that the local exchange carrier does not require knowledge of the details of implementation of the service provider's application. The methodology defines a unique transaction identifier that is defined and known on the local exchange carrier side of the interface. A table is created carrying the unique transaction identifiers with service process identifiers generated by various service provider applications. In this way, the shared execution environment interpreter can pass messages and instructions across the interface to the service providers application that only reference the application's internally generated service process identifier. This isolates the service provider application from unnecessary information about the operation of the network and the operation of other service providers services. Mediation rules include testing of tables to determine whether a directory number referenced in a message request from a service provider application is a customer of the service provider, whether trunk group routing requests are valid for the service providers and whether any access to, or particular levels of access to, certain network elements are authorised for the service provider requesting same.

A system and method for making a call from a dual mode mobile station (305) functioning in either a PCS mode or a cellular mode permits PCS communication if the station receives a beacon of sufficient strength in a PCS frequency band, and alternatively permits cellular communications if the station (305) does not receive a sufficient strength in the PCS frequency band. In order for the dual mode mobile station (305) to perform in both a cellular mode and a PCS mode, a single service provider will attempt to provide both types of services. The reseller must ensure that a call can be properly billed to a mobile station (305) for both a call received at the dual mode mobile station (305) and a call transmitted from the dual mode mobile station (305). Accordingly, methods and systems are provided for controlling cellular service access to and from the mobile station (305).

A personal number communications system assigns a personal number to each subscriber, and receives from each subscriber communication routing information in the form of one or more hierarchical lists of destinations based on the time of day and day of the week. The hierarchy and composition of the lists may be changed or may be overridden to direct selected communications to a specific destination. The system receives communications directed to a subscriber's personal number and identifies the source of the communication. The identification may be made through calling line identification, through a personalized list of callers, or through source identification. The system selects a first destination for the communication from the hierarchical list. At the first destination, the system announces the identified source of the communication and requests disposition information as to the acceptance, formal rejection or passive rejection, such as a no answer, of the communication. If accepted, the system routes the communication to the first destination. If rejected, the system routes the communication to the default destination selected by the subscriber. If there is a passive rejection, the system requests communication disposition information from the next destination in the destination list according to the hierarchy selected by the subscriber. The system continues to request communicatioin disposition information from each sequential destination on the destination list until the communication is accepted or until the last destination on the destination list is reached, at which point the communication is routed to the last destination.
