A valve pin adjustment system is provided for use in valve gated injection molding applications which enables adjustments to the positioning of the valve pin without necessitating removal of the clamping plates (12) and valve assembly components, including valve pins (19). A piston (22) associated with the valve pin includes a cylindrical body having first and second co-axially aligned internally threaded bores (22b, 22c) of respective first and second diameters. Preferably, the threads formed in the first and second bores are of the opposite hand. First and second externally-threaded cylindrical valve pin positioning members (28, 29) are respectively received in the first and second bores. Each of the positioning members includes a head portion and a tip portion. The tip of the second positioning member is in contact with the head of the first positioning member to lock the first positioning member in place and the tip of the first positioning member is in contact with a head portion on the valve pin to locate the valve pin.

The valve stem is moved downward into a closed position, such that a valve stem tip plugs or blocks an opening in a gate area, thereby precluding molten plastic from exiting the injection nozzle. The valve stem is moved upward into an open position, thereby allowing molten plastic to flow from the injection nozzle. In the open position, the reverse taper seals a clearance between the valve stem and either a manifold bushing or valve bushing, thereby precluding stem leakage or weepage. The reverse taper has a diameter which is larger than an internal diameter of internal passage of the valve bushing or manifold bushing. The valve stem also includes a headless end.

The built-up anti-backflow and anti-leakage injection nozzle comprises a structural nut (2), a valve casing (16) and a nozzle tip (11) which are screwed into one structural member. The valve casing (16), which is of a hollow structure, houses a compressed biasing spring (8) which acts toward the nut side on an anti-backflow valve (4) (first sealing point) and toward the tip side on an anti-leakage valve (10) (second sealing point), such that moving of the molten plastic materials is controlled by the two respective sealing points (3, 12). During injection the high-pressure molten materials force open the above-mentioned two sealings simultaneously. When injection has stopped, biased by the spring (8) the two sealing points are sealed simultaneously. In this manner, both backflow and leakage of the molten materials can be well prevented, and the quality of the moulded products can be greatly increased.
