The patent application relates to a process for producing methane from the anaerobic fermentation of a biomass, the process comprising at least the following steps: (a) subjecting to anaerobic digestion a quantity greater than or equal to 700,000 t/year, preferably 700,000-900,000 t/year, of biomass as such having an average value VS/Tq greater than or equal to 27.0% by weight, preferably greater than or equal to 30.0% by weight, more preferably greater than or equal to 33.0% by weight, in at least one bioreactor 2 having a total digestion volume less than or equal to 350,000 m 3 , preferably 150,000-350,000 m 3 , and producing a flow 3 of biogas comprising methane and CO 2 and a flow 4 of digestate comprising a solid phase and a liquid phase; (b) sending the flow 3 of biogas to a refining plant 5 for selectively removing the CO 2 from the flow 3 of biogas, thus obtaining a flow 6 of CO 2 and a flow 7 of biomethane; wherein the quantity of methane produced is greater than or equal to 70,000,000 m 3 /year, preferably greater than or equal to 90,000,000 m 3 /year.

In a method of recovering carbon dioxide from a gaseous mixture of carbon dioxide and dimethylsulphide, the gaseous mixture is contacted with liquid carbon dioxide. The dimethylsulphide is condensed out of the mixture of gaseous carbon dioxide and dimethylsulphide when the mixture contacts liquid carbon dioxide to form a solution of dimethylsulphide in liquid carbon dioxide and effectively scrub the gaseous carbon dioxide free of dimethylsulphide. The preferred apparatus comprises an enclosed distillation column (2) filled with a high efficiency structural packing material (3). The gas mixture is arranged to pass upwardly through the distillation column (2) while liquid carbon dioxide from a liquid carbon dioxide supply (7) is arranged to flow downwardly through the distillation column (2).
