An integrated circuit field-to-electrical energy sensor is capable of being energized through two DC voltage supply terminals (18, 20). Each of a plurality of such sensors, when connected in parallel so as to be energized from a single DC supply voltage source, is capable of recognizing by means of an address code comparator (28) a unique pulse signal code superimposed on the DC supply voltage (VCC). Stimulated by that code which is unique only to that sensor, that sensor powers up a transducer (38), e.g. Hall element, and responds by drawing a particular current pattern from the common DC voltage source indicative of the presence (or absence) of a field, e.g. magnetic, that is ambient to that sensor. Electrically controlled energy to the transducer (38) provided only when the unique code is present is supplied by the switchable of two regulated voltage outputs from a dual voltage regulator (36) having a control input connected to the output of the address code comparator (28). The steady (unswitched) regulated output voltage supplies energy to the MOS logic including the address code comparator. The sensor quiescent current drawn from the DC voltage supply line is thereby caused to be very low value which becomes increasingly advantageous as more and more sensors are operated in parallel on the same DC supply line.

The invention relates to a device comprising an array of microsystems which can be individually addressed by means of electromagnetic transmission, and to a method of addressing one such device. According to the invention, the microsystems (2) communicate with a control circuit (3) by means of electromagnetic transmission (4, 5, 8), preferably by radio frequency. The addressing method initialisation phase comprises the following successive steps, whereby: the control circuit (3) addresses each microsystem (2) with an identification code which is unique thereto, and a reduced addressing code (C) which is supplied by the control circuit (3) is stored in a register of the microsystem. Moreover, a subsequent addressing phase is performed, whereby the control circuit (3) transmits reset signals and increment signals to all of the microsystems (2). Each microsystem (2) controls the resetting of at least one counter upon receipt of a reset signal and the incrementation of the contents of the counter upon receipt of an increment signal. Furthermore, each microsystem (2) compares the contents of the counter and register thereof, such as to trigger the execution of a pre-determined command when said contents are identical.

Centralized data communications system incorporating a plurality of remote stations (11), each having a plurality of information channels (10) associated therewith. A selected remote station and its associated information channels are tone addressed by a central station (23) communicating with a group of remote stations over a respective communications channel (12). The remote stations (11) may have a current sensor (210) connected to one of the information channels for sending data corresponding to the amount of current sensed in an electrical path (212) back to the central station (23) upon being properly addressed. This data, together with data representative of the voltage on the monitored electrical path, is used by the central station to calculate energy consuption. The calculated energy consumption is retained at the central station (23) and used for information and billing purposes. The central station may also send data to an addressed information channel (10) at a remote station for controlling an operation thereat. The central station (23) can also receive data from various parameter measuring sensors (47) at a remote station, e.g. sensors measuring temperature, humidity, fluid flow, etc. which may be connected to other information channels (10) and thus the system may be used as a general purpose data gathering or distributing communications system.

Method of controlling a supervisory arrangement of a digital transmission system in which a plurality of repeaters are arranged between two terminal stations, a terminal station transmitting a call message which is provided with an address number towards the desired repeater. In each repeater passed-through the received address number is increased by a fixed number, for example 1, and thereafter compared with another fixed number, for example O. The repeater which detects that the increased address number received is equal to the other fixed number transmits its service information towards at least one terminal station. This accomplishes that all said repeaters may be of an identical construction.
