When each mail item (P) is picked up from the pickup position (S) and reaches a nip (8c) between conveyance belts (8a, 8b), air is introduced into the negative-pressure chamber (5) to eliminate negative pressure therein.

The air suction device (7) is disposed to generate a suction force to enable the paper material (3) to stick to the supporting side of the belt-type conveying device (6).
