    摘要: The invention relates to optically active high-molecular compounds represented by the structural formula (1) and stationary-phase materials containing the same. The high-molecular compounds exhibit optical activity by virtue of their stacking helical structures wherein the aromatic groups are distorted, thus being useful as optically active stationary phases for HPLC or polarized-light absorbers. In the formula (1), Ar is an aromatic ring; R and R are each hydrogen or an organic group; R and R are each a substituent; n is an integer of 2 or above; X is -(CH2)m-, an aromatic group, a vinyl group, a heteroatom, or a heteroatom-containing group; and m is an integer of 0 or above, with the proviso that the compound may have two to four R s and/or two to four R s which may be each the same or different from each other.

    摘要: A polymer which has side chains comprising a functional group containing a cyclic moiety composed of carbon and hydrogen and/or of carbon, hydrogen, and X (X is a heteroatom) and having aromaticity and which has a number-average molecular weight of 250 to 1,000,000. That molar extinction coefficient of the polymer which is attributable to the cyclic moieties having aromaticity is lower by at least 30% than that molar extinction coefficient of the polymerizable monomer used for incorporating the cyclic moieties having aromaticity which is attributable to the cyclic moiety having aromaticity. This polymer has a hypochromic effect because it has a stacked structure in which the cyclic moieties have been superposed. When an electron-donating compound or electron-accepting compound is added, the polymer forms a charge-transfer complex.

    The polymer has a molecular weight dispersion narrow enough to ensure high resolution and high developability in resists containing said homopolymer as main component. The ratio of weight to number average molecular weights is preferably 1.03 to 1.50.
    The polymer can be manufactured by anionic polymerization of a tetrahydropyranyloxystyrene monomer of formula:

    preferably using an anionic initiator such as an organometal compound and in an organic solvent, e.g. tetrahydrofuran; a polymerisation terminator is added when the desired molecular weight is reached. The polymer formed has residual polymerizing terminal sites.

The arylstyrene copolymer has high syndiotacticity and exhibits excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance and electrical properties. Therefore, the present invention can be effectively utilized as a means for providing a heat-resistant resin, raw materials for films, etc.
