A circuit is provided which, when connected in series with a service, allows that service to be powered or unpowered depending on whether the power supply is continuous or it is temporarily interrupted. That is, by switching ON or switching ON-OFF-ON the service will be powered or unpowered. For instance in a house or hotel bathroom, the circuit can be used to select whether a fan operates when the lights are on. This can be achieved by connecting the lights directly to the single make-or-brake switch and connecting a fan in parallel through the circuit. Then switching ON or ON-OFF-ON would select whether or not the fan operates when the lights are on. The second example relates to a bedroom or hotel room. The circuit could be used so that if the lights are switched ON, blue lights come on and some seconds later, white lights also come on. If the switch is cycled OFF-ON before the white lights come on, the blue lights come on again but the white lights remain off.

The control circuit may be configured to control the gate current path to conduct a pulse of gate current through a gate terminal of the thyristor to render the thyristor conductive at a firing time during a half-cycle of the AC power source. The control circuit may operate in a first gate drive mode in which the control circuit renders the gate current path non-conductive after a pulse time period from the firing time. The control circuit may operate in a second gate drive mode in which the control circuit maintains the gate current path conductive after the pulse time period during the half-cycle.

The invention provides a low current consumption control switch device and method related thereto. The control switch device includes a switch control component, a microprocessor, a wireless signal receiver for receiving control signal and a DC power supply. The DC power supply draws an AC current from the AC power supply to convert the AC current to a DC output to power the wireless signal receiver, the microprocessor and the switch control component. The switch control component has a control input for receiving control instructions to control current supply from the AC power supply to the load. The microprocessor is operatively connected to the control input of the switch control component for providing said control instructions to alter switching state of the switch control component. The control signal comprises a preamble and a message portion. The wireless signal receiver is configured to alternate between at least two current consumption modes and to remain in a higher current consumption mode of the at least two current consumption modes upon detection of the preamble.

The matrix converter includes: a bidirectional switch circuit (10) that switches on or off the supply of the three-phase AC power to the load; and a controller (20) that performs different virtual AC/DC conversion processes according to a plurality of modes which are divided depending on magnitude correlation between respective phase voltages in the input three-phase AC power, with respect to the input three-phase AC power, selects two phases from the input three-phase AC power, and generates switching patterns of the bidirectional switch circuit so as to perform the different DC/AC conversion processes according to the plurality of modes with respect to line voltages of the two selected phases.

A power frequency converter and an associated method are provided to convert an AC input signal at a first frequency, such as a first frequency that is permitted to vary within a range, to an AC output signal at a second frequency that is different than the first frequency and that may be fixed. The power frequency converter includes a plurality of power rectification modules. Each power rectification module includes a plurality of power rectification components for receiving different phases of an input signal at a first frequency. Each power rectification module is configured to provide an output signal to a load, such as an induction motor, at a second frequency. The power frequency converter also includes a controller configured to provide control signals to selectively enable the power rectification modules. The controller is configured to provide the control signals without synchronization to the first frequency.
