摘要: A blower housing is coupleable to an engine including a cooling fan that is rotatable about an axis. The blower housing includes a first housing portion that is coupled to the engine and has an intake opening through which air may flow. The blower housing also includes a removable housing portion that is removably coupled to the first housing portion and has first and second sidewalls that direct air toward at least one engine cylinder. In one embodiment, the first and second sidewalls direct air toward different engine cylinders, in another embodiment, the first and second sidewalls direct air toward the same engine cylinder.

摘要: An engine starting system that includes a power source (320), an electromagnetic coil (330) and core (335), and a choke valve (340) disposed in an air intake of an air/fuel-mixing device of an internal combustion engine. At the time of starting the engine, the power source outputs an electrical signal to an electromagnetic coil and core, inducing a magnetic field from the electromagnetic coil and the core. The magnetic field from the core moves the choke valve toward a substantially closed position that enriches an intake mixture of fuel and air to the engine during starting. In one embodiment, the power source includes a moving magnet (325) that interacts with a stator coil to provide the electrical signal to the electromagnetic coil. In another embodiment, the closing of a starter switch allows a battery to provide the electrical power to the electromagnetic coil.

摘要: An engine starting and stopping device for an internal combustion engine includes an energy storing mechanism having at least one elastic member such as a spring, an input element engageable with the elastic member and movable during engine coast down to load the elastic member, and an output element that is movable in response to the energy storing mechanism. The output element is movable in response to the energy storing mechanism as the elastic member unloads from the loaded state, to thereby move a rotatable member (i.e., a crankshaft and/or flywheel) of the engine during starting of the engine. An input control device is also provided for positioning the input element into engagement with the rotatable member of the engine such that rotation of the rotatable member moves the input element to load the elastic member during engine coast down and also to brake the engine.

摘要: A rewind cover guard (34) for an internal combustion engine. The guard (34) has a mounting surface (38) and a flange (42). The mounting surface (38) has an inner edge (46) and an outer edge (50), and is disposed between the blower housing (14) and the starter rewind cover (18) of the engine (10). The flange (42) is formed integral with the mounting surface (38) and projects outwardly from the mounting surface (38) near the outer edge (50). The flange (42) is disposed adjacent the starter rewind cover (18). The flange (42) extends in a direction transverse to the mounting surface (38), and is disposed vertically above the rewind cover (18). The flange (42) has a deflecting surface (58) facing away from the rewind cover (18), and a lip (66) along the free edge (62) of the flange (38). The guard (34) diverts water and melted snow away from the rewind cover (18) to help prevent moisture from entering the engine (10).

摘要: The present invention is a valve seal assembly used to prevent the lubricating fluid used to lubricate a valve stem and valve guide from entering the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The valve seal assembly has an outer side surface that sealingly engages the engine housing of the internal combustion engine. The valve seal assembly is also preferably located near the end of the valve guide that is closest to the combustion chamber. The valve seal assembly also includes a resilient sealing element that has an improved sealing lip for preventing the lubricating fluid from traveling past the sealing lip. The sealing lip is also positioned in order to extend the operating life and effectiveness of the valve seal assembly.

摘要: A four-stroke internal combustion engine (20) is provided. There is provided within an engine housing (28) an oil reservoir (126) and a valve chamber (156) which independently communicate with a crank chamber (124). A strategically placed divider (116) and passageway, located within the engine housing (28), appropriately direct lubricant within the engine housing (28) so that the internal cavity of the engine is lubricated during use in various operating attitudes, and so that the fluid flows to and is held in the proper chambers of the engine housing during storage. There is also provided a breather arrangement for an internal combustion engine (20) which includes a cam shaft (98) having a hollow passageway in communication wit the crank chamber (124) and the air intake system of the engine. There is also provided an engine housing which can be utilized for engines having different horse power ratings. There is also provided a crankshaft bearing assembly (68, 70) which prevents damage to the bearing upon insertion of the crankshaft (80) into the crank chamber (124).

摘要: An internal combustion engine has a mechanical compression release including a cam, a cam follower, and a compression release member. The cam having a cam lobe and a base radius with a slot, and a compression release member disposed within the slot. The compression release member is substantially V-shaped and is comprised of a first portion, a second portion, and bridging portion. The first portion has an auxiliary cam surface that extends slightly beyond the base radius and the second portion has sufficient mass to function as a flyweight. The bridging portion is substantially U-shaped and connects the first and second portions. The compression release member pivots about a pivot pin, that is disposed within the curved portion of the bridging portion. As the cam rotates, centrifugal forces cause the compression release member to pivot and to disengage from the cam follower.

The substantially planar member also has spring locators for the intake and exhaust valve (32) return springs. The cast member (12) is affixed to the engine cylinder (17), and includes cast intake and exhaust manifolds (26), bosses for receiving the intake and exhaust valves (32), a cast pocket for receiving the intake and exhaust push rods (72), and air cooling fins (68). A head cover (16) is disposed on an opposite side of the planar member (14). The invention eliminates the need for two cast components.

摘要: A centrifugally-responsive compression release apparatus relieves compression in more than one cylinder of an internal combustion engine during starting. The compression release apparatus utilizes a centrifugally-responsive, flyweight (28), a single shaft (20) operable by the flyweight (28), and one or more lift members movable by the shaft (20) and engageable with one or more valve operating devices. The compression release appparatus may employ a single lift member that is engageable with two valve operating devices upon rotation of the shaft, or alternatively, a pair of lift members each engageable with a distinct valve operating device. Thus, the compression release apparatus is particularly adaptable to reducing compression in two cylinders of a V-twin engine, but may be adapted to reducing compression in an engine having more than two cylinders.

摘要: A vehicle suspension system including a vehicle body and a hub assembly spaced from the vehicle body and having an inner hub member. The suspension system further includes a first control arm having an outboard end pivotally connected to the inner hub member at a first pivot point having a first pivot axis, and an inboard end pivotally connected to the vehicle body. Additionally, the suspension system has a strut including a shock absorbing member and a spring mounted substantially coaxially with the shock absorbing member. The strut has an outboard end pivotally connected to the inner hub member at the first pivot point such that the first control arm and the strut both pivot about the first pivot axis. The strut also has an inboard end pivotally connected to the vehicle body. In a preferred aspect, the suspension system includes a shim positioned between the inboard end of the first control arm and the vehicle body to achieve a desired offset between the hub assembly and the vehicle body.
