The invention relates to an elastic polyurethane foam having a resonance frequency of up to 3.5 Hz and a process for producing same. This foam is obtained by using as main reactant materials at least one polyol selected from among specific polyoxyalkylene polyols and polymer dispersion polyols based on said polyoxyalkylene polyols as the matrix and a polyisocyanate compound. This foam is produced by using a polyoxyalkylene polyol having a particularly low hydroxyl value (X mg KOH/g) and a particularly low total unsaturation (Y meq/g) or a polymer dispersion polyol based on said polyoxyalkylene polyol as the matrix. More specifically the polyoxyalkylene polyol has a hydroxyl value (X mg KOH/g) of 5 to 38 and a total unsaturation (Y meq/g) of up to 0.07, with the proviso that Y « 0.9/(X-10). A preferred polyoxyalkylene polyol is one containing 70 wt.% or more oxypropylene groups and 5 wt.% or more oxyethylene groups. The use of a small amount of a crosslinking agent together with the polyoxyalkylene polyol is preferred. This foam has vibration properties suited for seat cushions of automobiles. Therefore, it can give a comfortable ride.

A method for quantitatively determining LDL cholesterols, comprising adding a surfactant selected among polyoxyethylenealkylene phenyl ethers and polyoxyethylenealkylene tribenzylphenyl ethers and a cholesterol assaying enzyme reagent to the serum to preferentially react HDL and VLDL cholesterols among lipoproteins and then determining the amounts of the cholesterols reacted thereafter. This method can eliminate the necessity for pretreatments such as centrifugation and electrophoresis, enables the quantitative determination to be efficiently conducted in a simple manner, and can be applied to various automatic analyzers.

A process for producing an ocular lens having a highly hydrophilic lens surface, comprising a polymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing a hydrophilic monomer, which comprises: a step of preparing a mold equipped with a molding cavity to provide an intended lens shape, comprising a material containing by bonding a component capable of forming hydrogen bonds with the hydrophilic monomer and capable of being dissolved in water, an organic solvent or their mixed solvent, a step of putting the monomer mixture into the molding cavity of the mold and polymerizing it, and a step of dissolving the mold in the water, the organic solvent or their mixed solvent after completion of the polymerization, so that an ocular lens comprising the polymer and having an intended lens shape, formed in the molding cavity of the mold, is taken out.

Evacuation apparatus for collecting particulates generated during dental procedures and, in particular, air abrasion procedures. The evacuation apparatus has a vacuum pump for creating a suction flow and a filter located upstream of the pump. The evacuation apparatus incorporates a cyclone separator upstream of the filter which removes abrasive, tooth, and other material from the suction flow, thereby increasing filter life and allowing the apparatus to function at full suction flow for longer periods of time. The apparatus can be used with an evacuation hand piece which provides both intra- and extra-oral evacuation to reduce the mess generated during air abrasion dental procedures. The mess is further reduced when the evacuation system is used with an abrasion system having a continuous purge feature. The continuous purge eliminates residual abrasive material in the hose and abrasive hand piece, thereby avoiding the discharge of puffs of abrasive material.

Bifidobacterium breve showing a viable count of 1 x 109 cells/ml or more immediately after being cultured in a soy-milk medium and sustaining a viable count of 1 x 108 cells/ml or more after being stored at 10 °C for 14 days; and fermented soy-milk containing the same. This bifidobacterium is reduced in the decrease in viable count during storage.
