    摘要: Various methods and devices for providing transdermal electrical stimulation therapy to a patient are provided. In certain variations, a method may include positioning a stimulator electrode over a glabrous skin surface overlying a target nerve of a subject. Electrical stimulation may be delivered through or across the glabrous skin surface to the target nerve to stimulate the target nerve, while remaining safe and tolerable to the patient. Electrical stimulation may be delivered at frequencies that may be painful or intolerable when applied over non-glabrous surfaces of the body. Various applicators or devices for providing transdermal electrical stimulation therapy are also provided.

    摘要: The invention relates to a device for modulating one or more nerves within a body of a patient comprising:
    - a handheld device (300) comprising a enclosure with an interior and an interface configured for contact with an outer skin surface of a patient;
    - a source of energy (320) housed within the interior of the enclosure, wherein the source of energy is configured to generate an electrical field comprising bursts of pulses with a frequency of about 5 to about 100 bursts per second;
    - one or more electrodes (340, 45) housed within the enclosure;
    - a conduction medium (350) within the enclosure and electrically coupling the electrodes with the interface; and
    wherein the source of energy is configured to apply an electrical impulse through the interface of the enclosure transcutaneously through an outer skin surface of the patient to a nerve at a target region below the outer skin surface,
    wherein the electrical impulse is sufficient to modulate a nerve within the target region and insufficient to substantially modulate nerve(s) in the vicinity of the outer skin surface.

    摘要: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for treating or preventing dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease. The methods comprise transmitting impulses of energy non-invasively to selected nerve fibers, particularly those in a vagus nerve, that modulate the activity of a patient's locus ceruleus. The transmitted energy impulses, comprising magnetic and/or electrical energy, stimulate the selected nerve fibers to cause the locus ceruleus to release norepinephrine into regions of the brain that contain beta-amyloids. The norepinephrine counteracts neuroinflammation that would damage neurons in those regions and the locus ceruleus, thereby arresting or slowing the progression of the disease in the patient.
