Bei einem Verfahren zur Auswertung der auf eine Tretkurbel eines Fahrrads oder Ergometers ausgeübten, gemessenen Kräfte werden die nicht in tangentialer Richtung im Umdrehungssinn an der Tretkurbel angreifenden Kräfte ermittelt und akustisch signalisiert. Eine betragsmäßige Änderung der ermittelten Kräfte wird durch eine damit korrelierende Frequenzänderung des akustischen Signals angezeigt. Eine Vorrichtung zur Durchführung des Verfahrens mit einer Kraftmessvorrichtung einer damit in Verbindung stehenden Auswertevorrichtung ist in einem Pedal (1) angeordnet. Mittels Dehnungsmessstreifen (7) werden in tangentialer und radialer Richtung auf eine Tretkurbel wirkende Kräfte gemessen und nach Verstärkung und Aufbereitung der Messsignale zur Ansteuerung eines Lautsprechers (11) verwendet. Durch die Anordnung der Dehnungsmessstreifen (7) sowie die verwendete Verstärkerelektronik (10) wird erreicht, dass der gemessene Anteil der nicht in tangentialer Richtung im Umdrehungssinn an der Tretkurbel angreifenden Kräfte akustisch angezeigt wird. Die Auswertevorrichtung kann eine Einschaltautomatik sowie einen Speicher zum Abspeichern der gemessenen Signale aufweisen.

A noise reduction device 12 is provided that mounts at the intersection of a pair of spokes 19 of a bicycle wheel. The noise reduction device 12 can also have magnetic properties for use with a bicycle monitoring device. In a preferred embodiment, the noise reduction device is a magnetic device 30 that has a body portion 28 and a magnet. The body portion 28 has at least one spoke-receiving recess 35 on one side 34, and at least another spoke-receiving recess on the other side. In an alternate embodiment, the spoke-receiving recesses are irregularly shaped, so as to accommodate a variety of spoke angles. When the magnetic device is used with a monitoring device, it communicates with a sensing device, which is adapted to be coupled to a portion of the bicycle that is adjacent to a wheel of the bicycle. A display unit is adapted to be mounted on handlebars of the bicycle for displaying the speed of the bicycle or other information obtained from sensing the rotation of the wheel.
