Potassium titanate is obtained which has a novel configuration, exhibits excellent wear resistance when incorporated in a friction material and shows an excellent reinforcement performance when incorporated in a resin composition. A manufacturing method of the potassium titanate, a friction material using the potassium titanate and a resin composition using the potassium titanate are also obtained. The potassium titanate is represented by K 2 Ti n O (2n + 1) (n = 4.0 - 11.0) and has the highest X-ray diffraction intensity peak (2θ) in the range of 11.0 ° - 13.5 ° with its half width being not less than 0.5 °.

The invention relates to polylactide-based polymer or copolymer (PLA) compositions withimproved flame retardancy properties as obtained by conventional melt-blending ofPLA polyester matrix (1) with both calcium sulfate (2) and organo-modified layered silicates (OMLS) (3). Combination of CaSO 4 and OMLS exhibits synergistic effects on PLA flame retardancy by both significantly increasing the time to ignition and decreasing the heat release rateper unit area, and promoting non-dripping properties. Moreover,all other properties of PLA remain almost unchanged or are improved as regards to pristine PLA, especially thermal and mechanical properties.

The present invention provides a method for positive product identification using tagging materials such as barium sulfate, manganese dioxide or mixtures thereof. Such materials may be employed, for example, in the dusting agent used in roofing materials, and applied to one or both sides of rubber roofing sheeting or admixed with the compounding ingredients during the preparation of the sheeting composition. The tagging materials can be detected and identified in the finished product by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy.

The invention relates to a method of preparation hydrophobized hyaluronic acid (Formula I) and further to a method of encapsulating biologically active substances into the nanomicelles of hydrophobized hyaluronan serving as carriers of biologically active hydrophobic substances. The hydrophobization of hyaluronan is carried out through an esterification reaction of hyaluronan with long-chain carboxylic acids, the latter being activated by a halogenide derivative of 2,4,6-trichlorobenzoic acid or by another organic chloride. In an aqueous environment, water-soluble hydrophobized derivatives can form nanomicelles in which nonpolar substances can be bound by means of non-covalent physical interactions. The core of a nanomicelle is formed by hydrophobic acyl functional groups while the shell of a nanomicelle is formed by hyaluronic acid. The encapsulation of the substances into nanomicelles can be performed by means of the solvent exchange method or by means of sonication. Hyaluronic nanomicelles support the penetration of bound substances in topical applications and enable the bound substances to be transferred into the individual cells. The nanomicelles obtained from hydrophobized hyaluronan derivatives are usable in cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.
