Bei einem Druckgas- Hochspannungsleistungsschalter mit einer Schalt- kontaktanordnung (2,3), die sich in einer elektronegativen Druckgas- Isolier/ Löschmittelatmosphäre, insbesondere SF 6 -Atmosphäre, befindet, ist eine Anordnung (5A, 5B) zur Erzeugung eines magnetischen Feldes, das auf den Schaltlichtbogen im Sinne einer besseren Löschbarkeit des Lichtbogens im Strom-Nulldurchgang einwirkt, vorgesehen. Diese Anordnung (5A, 5B) zur Erzeugung des magnetischen Feldes ist so ausgebildet und/oder es sind Begrenzungswände vorgesehen derart, daß der Lichtbogen, umgeben von der elektronegativen Druckgasatmosphäre, im wesentlichen steht und nicht rotiert. Durch eine vorgegebene Ausrichtung des Magnetfeldes werden die Bahnen der Ladungsträger derart verwirbelt, daß dem Lichtogen Ladungsträger entzogen werden, die von dem umgebenden elektronegativen Druckgas neutralisiert werden.

A contactor or switch assembly adapted for switching power to a circuit. The housing has internal walls that laterally extend within the interior compartment to define a protection chamber. Current carrying contacts are disposed in the protection chamber of the housing. The current carrying contacts include conductive bodies that protrude from the housing and are configured to close the circuit. Arc dissipation areas are provided in the protection chamber and are located proximate to the current carrying contacts. Magnets are provided proximate ends of the dissipation areas. The magnets create magnetic flux or a magnetic field that extends across the current carrying contacts. The magnetic flux directs electric arcs radiating from one or more of the current carrying contacts into the arc dissipation areas, thereby increasing the effective distance that the electric arcs travel wherein the electric arcs are dissipated in the dissipation areas.

The present invention relates to a direct current (DC) circuit breaker using a magnetic field, for generating a magnetic flux in a direction vertical to the direction of an arc current generated in a main switch so as to increase resistance to the arc current and for continuously supplying a circulating current from a DC line so as to further increase the magnetic flux and thus continuously increase the resistance to the arc current, thereby extinguishing an arc. The DC circuit breaker using a magnetic field according to the present invention comprises: a main switch installed in a DC line; a coil wound so as to generate a magnetic flux in a direction vertical to the direction of an arc current generated when the main switch is opened; a semiconductor switch for switching current application to the coil; a capacitor connected in series to the semiconductor switch; and a first diode for conducting the electric current of the line, supplied from one side of the main switch, to the capacitor, wherein the semiconductor switch is turned on, in case a fault occurs, so that the electric current is applied to the coil by the voltage charged in the capacitor.
