A cathode ray tube comprises an electron gun with means for generating electron beams. External magnetic fields influence the electron beams and reduce the picture quality. An electrode of the gun includes a part made of a soft-magnetic material, which extends transversely to the electron beams, and two parts, situated to the left and to the right of the electron beams, which extend along said electron beams. Together these parts form a magnetic circuit. Preferably, these parts are strongly magnetically coupled, for example, because they are interconnected or very closely spaced. Interaction of the magnetic circuit formed by said three parts with an external magnetic field causes a Lorentz force on the electron beams. The resultant deviations in the paths of the electron beams largely compensate for the deviations in the paths of the electron beams caused by the effect of the external magnetic field between the electron gun and the display screen.

The present invention is direct to a cathode-ray tube having arc suppressing means therein. An electron gun mount assembly comprises the cathode electrode (3) to emit thermions, a control grid electrode to adjust the amount of the thermions emitted from the cathode electrode and to form the beam of electrons, a focusing electrode to focus the beam of electrons formed in the control grid electrode, and an accelerating electrode to accelerate the beam of electrons focused in the electrode. To remove the thermions leaking from the cathode electrode a metal piece (12) is positioned between any one of the metal wires located horizontally farthest away from the cathode electrode (3) and an inner wall of a neck glass (11), with one end of the metal piece being electrically connected to an extra stem pin grounded at any one of ground terminals outside the cathode-ray tube.

In a color picture tube including a screen and an inline gun for generating and directing three inline electron beams along separate paths toward the screen, the gun includes a plurality of cathodes (34) and at least six electrodes (36,38,40,42,44,46) longitudinally spaced from the cathodes. The first (36), second (38) and fourth (42) electrodes from the cathodes are of materials having lower coefficients of thermal expansion than the coefficients of thermal expansion of the materials of the other electrodes. As a result the time to settle to steady-state static convergence during warm-up of the tube is reduced.

The first lens electrode (3) of each of the outermost guns is secured to insulating assembly rods (7) by means of two suspension braces (4, 12) situated at an axial distance from each other in such manner that the brace (12) situated on the side of the triode part (5) is secured to the outer surface of the first lens electrode (3) remote from the central electron gun and the brace (4) situated on the side of the second lens electrode (2) is secured to the outer surface of the first lens electrode (3) facing the central electron gun. Such a construction results in a low thermal convergence drift.
