A method for charging a battery pack including a plurality of battery units includes: a first step of charging the battery units with a first electric current at a first rate until an internal pressure of at least one of the plurality of battery units begins to increase; and a second step of charging/discharging the battery units with a second electric current which is lower than the first electric current at a second rate which is lower than the first rate after the internal pressure of the at least one of the plurality of battery units has begun to increase.

The present invention provides a method for detecting a fully charged condition of a secondary battery by which the fully charged condition of a secondary battery can be detected accurately and deterioration in battery characteristic due to overcharging can be restrained irrespective of the charging mode and the surroundings, without the need for a special battery structure. In the method, pulse vibrations generated inside a secondary battery being charged are detected, and when the obtained characteristic value of the pulse vibrations, for example, incidence of generation of the vibrations reaches a predetermined value, the secondary battery is determined to be in fully charged condition.

System and method for charging a battery pack. One system includes a battery pack with at least one battery cell, a memory, and a charging circuit configured to control a charging current from a charger to the battery pack. The battery pack also includes an electronic processor configured to control the charging circuit and to determine a type of charger to which the battery pack is connected. The electronic processor is further configured to determine, based on the type of charger, a disconnect time and to control the charging circuit to allow the charging current to charge the battery pack. The electronic processor is further configured to control the charging circuit to electrically disconnect the battery pack from the charger after the disconnect time elapses and to control the charging circuit to electrically reconnect the battery pack and the charger after disconnecting the battery pack from the charger.

It is described a system (1) and a method for controlling a charging level of at least one capacitor (2), comprising a sound wave sensor (4) configured to detect sound signals (3) from the capacitors (2), a sound evaluation unit (5) configured to evaluate the sound signals (3) detected by the sound wave sensor (4), and a control unit (6) configured to control the charging level of the at least one capacitor (2). Thereby the control unit (6) is configured to control the charging level of the at least one capacitor (2) in dependence on the sound signals (3) evaluated by the sound evaluation unit (5) and to reduce the charging level of the capacitors (2) if defined criteria are met in patterns of the sound signals (3).

The invention relates to a method for adaptively charging rechargeable cells, in particular lithium-ion cells. The present invention further relates to an apparatus for charging cells of this kind. In order to specify a method for charging a lithium-based cell and, respectively, an apparatus for charging a lithium-based cell, in which method and apparatus the capacitance of the cell is utilized in an optimum manner, the charging time is drastically reduced, the service life of the cell is extended, degeneration of a charged cell is virtually prevented and/or the capacitance of the cell can be increased, the invention specifies a method which comprises the steps of: pulsed charging of the cell, wherein the charge current IL exceeds the rated charge current ILmax of the cell during the charge pulse (31); and the cell is discharged by means of load pulses (32) between the charge pulses (31).

摘要:
A method of charging a battery and a battery pack utilizing the same, is described. The method enhances the battery life characteristic of a battery cell by varying the charging parameters (e.g., charging voltage, charging current, rate of charge, relative state of charge, and battery capacity) based a temperature of or around the battery cell is in a normal, extended, or abnormal temperature range when the battery cell is fully charged. The charging method includes determining whether a battery cell is being charged, and if the battery cell is being charged, determining whether the battery cell is fully charged; if the battery cell is fully charged, determining whether a temperature of or around the battery cell is in a normal range or in an extended range; and if the temperature is in the normal range, incrementing a first count and selecting a first charging parameter set if the first count is greater than a first reference count, and if the temperature is in the extended range, incrementing a second count and selecting a charging parameter set if the second count is greater than a second reference count.
