    摘要: A current measuring apparatus measures current flowing through a phase winding (14a) of a switched reluctance motor while dissipating very little power. The apparatus includes a control (44a) for controlling the current flowing through the winding (14a). A gate (64) is operatively connected to the control (44a) for switching the current flowing through the winding (14a). The arrangement is such that in a first mode of the gate (64), the current flows through the phase winding (14a). In a second mode of the gate (64), flow of the current through the winding (14a) is inhibited. The gate (64) includes a sense means for sensing a fraction of the current when the gate (64) is in the first mode thereof. A resistor (52) of relatively high resistance is electrically connected in series with the sense means such that a voltage drop occurs across the resistor (52) when the gate (64) is in the first mode. The voltage drop signal is fed back to the control (44a) so that dependent on the signal, the current flowing through the phase winding (14a) of the motor is maintained in order to maximize motor efficiency.

As a result, leakage fluxes Fa and Fb between the magnetic poles (4a, 4e) and the salient poles (5a, 5b) of the rotor (5) increase and the torque can be increased.

    摘要: A switched reluctance motor includes a rotor (14) mounted for rotation about an axis (18), and having a plurality of rotor poles (22, 26, 30, 34) and a stator (38) surrounding the rotor (14) and including first, second and third stator phases. The motor also includes energizing means for sequentially energizing the stator phases with an energy source to cause rotation of the rotor (14), based on rotor position information, the energizipg means causing one phase to be energized and then deenergized to a near zero current level prior to a point where the rotor pole breaks away from the stator pole. The energizing means further includes limited current turn on means connected to switch operating means for operating a switch on the one phase to permit flow of limited current through the one phase after it reaches a near zero current level but before the break away point. The first, second and third phases are arranged so that adjacent phases are conneted, alternately, between the positive supply voltage and the negative supply voltage.

    摘要: A process is disclosed for controlling the switching-off process of the branches of a reluctance engine whose stator is provided with windings to which are transmitted current pulses calculated as a function of angular position and speed of rotation of the rotor according to a predetermined algorithm. The excited branch is switched off when a switching-off angle (VP) is reached after a zero crossing (vo) reference angle. Two ranges of operation called 'chop' range and blocked voltage range must be differentiated. The switching-off angle (VP) for both ranges of operation of the reluctance engine is calculated according to the same algorithm and is set by a regulator. In the lower speed of rotation range, the 'chop' range, a pulse width modulated voltage is applied to the conductive branch and in the upper range, the blocked voltage range, a constant voltage is applied. In both ranges, the switching-off angle is calculated from engine parameters and actual operation values to maximise torque yield and to trigger the switching-off process by converting said values into a switching-off pulse that switches off the conductive branch.

    摘要: A failure detector for a position encoder which uses a plurality of position sensors (46a,46b,46c). The failure detector receives position signals from the plurality of position sensors. The position signals represent the rotor position for a switched reluctance machine, and the position signals have allowable states and allowable output state sequences that occur if the position encoder is operating properly. If one or more of the plurality of sensors fail or the rotating element of the position encoder is damaged, an illegal state occurs in the position signals from the position sensors. The failure detector produces a failure signal upon the occurrence of an illegal state. In addition, the failure detector monitors the sequence of the output states and generates a failure when the output states change in a sequence that is not one of the allowed sequences. The machine controller can respond to the failure signal to stop machine operation or trigger an alternate positioning scheme.

The circuit (94) includes a series of counters (110) for measuring the amount of time required for the seek current in each phase to reach a predetermined seek current threshold and a comparator (114) for comparing the seek current rise times and for establishing a priority sequence determined by which of the phases has the lowest seek rise time, the intermediate seek current rise time, and the highest seek current rise time. The circuit (94) also includes a run signal generator (122) connected to the comparator (114) for energizing a selected one of the phases based upon the priority sequence to cause rotation of the rotor (14).
