A method and system for synchronizing transmission/reception timings delayed during transmission/reception of data frames for voice signals in a mobile communication system including a media gateway with a transcoder and a base station controller for exchanging digital voice signals with the media gateway. The media gateway or the base station controller performs synchronization control by detecting synchronization of forward data frames for the voice signals. As the base station controller requests synchronization, the media gateway adjusts transmission timing and acquires synchronization according to the adjusted transmission timing, thereby correctly transmitting/receiving data frames for the voice signals.

A simple and flexible over-air protocol for use with a mobile telephone system, having hand-held telephones in a microcell or other type of cellular communication system. A method in which user stations communicate with one or more base stations to place and receive telephone calls, in which the user stations are provided a secure voice or data link and have the ability to handoff calls between base stations while such calls are in progress. Each base station has a set of "air channels" to which it transmits in sequence. The air channels supported by each base station are called that base station's "polling loop". A user station receives general polling information on an unoccupied air channel, transmits responsive information to the base station, and awaits acknowledgment from the base station. Each base station may therefore simultaneously maintain communication with as many user stations as there are air channels in its polling loop. The ability of a user station to communicate on any unoccupied air channel makes the protocol air-channel agile, while the stability of user station and base station clocks may define air channels, saps, and minor frames.

An oscillator synchronizer (517) synchronizes a first reference oscillator (505) that is associated with a first radio network (501) and a second reference oscillator (509) that is associated with a second radio network (503) in order to adjust radio center frequencies. With a variation of the embodiment (519), a reference oscillator (509) of one of the radio network (503) adjusts center frequencies for radios (507) that are associated with the other radio network (501).

Disclosed is a method for measuring a propagation delay value of a frame transmitted by a UE to a Node B in a TDD mobile communication system. The UE acquires synchronization with the Node B based on a downlink pilot channel signal transmitted in a period of a downlink pilot time slot, and determines an estimated round trip delay value T1 by comparing transmission power of a physical common channel signal in a first time slot with reception power of the physical common channel signal. Further, the UE transmits an uplink pilot channel signal by applying the estimated round trip delay value T1 to a desired transmission point of the uplink pilot channel signal. The UE receives a transmission point correcting value T2 through a forward physical access channel (FPACH) signal transmitted from the Node B in a period of one downlink time slot among the time slots, and transmits a physical random access channel (PRACH) message with the estimated round trip delay value T1 at a transmission point determined based on the transmission point correcting value T2 and the estimated round trip delay value T1, so that the PRACH message is received at the Node B at a start point of a period of one uplink time slot among the time slots.
