Techniques for transmitting data with short-term interference mitigation in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, a first station (e.g., a base station or a terminal) may receive a message sent by a second station to request reduction of interference on at least one resource. In response to receiving the message, the first station may determine a first transmit power level to use for the at least one resource based on one or more factors such as a priority metric sent in the message, the buffer size at the first station, etc. The first station may send a power decision pilot on the at least one resource at a second transmit power level determined based on the first transmit power level.

A set of new information elements are defined that are to be used between an access point and a client that allow an access point to advertise its capabilities, configuration, and/or parameters allowing the client to tune to the parameters prior to, during, or after associating with the access point. If the access point adjusts these parameters, the changes are advertised in subsequent beacons and response frames and the client responsive to receiving a beacon or response frame with changed parameters will change its parameters accordingly. If the station changes its operating parameters it will send a message to the access point informing the access point of the changes.

Cognitive power control may relate to minimizing current consumption and placing limitations on electromagnetic fields (EMF) and specific absorption rate (SAR) especially for transmission during body-worn use. A method can include calculating and forecasting power consumption and exposure due to transmission by a device to a user of the device to obtain a calculated power consumption and exposure. The method can also include comparing the calculated and the forecasted exposure to at least one predetermined criterion to obtain a compliance result. The method can further include adjusting at least one parameter of the device contingent upon the compliance result. The calculating and the forecasting can be performed in real time.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide techniques and configurations for a signal transmission for an apparatus, such as a mobile or wearable device, based on sensor fail-safety. In one instance, the apparatus may comprise a transmitter to transmit a communication signal of the apparatus at a first power level, a sensor to monitor a process that is external to the apparatus and to provide an output signal indicating a change in a state of the process, and a control module communicatively coupled with the sensor and transmitter, to determine whether the output signal provided by the sensor has indicated a change in the external process over a threshold time period, and, based on a result of this determination, cause the transmitter to switch the transmission from the first power level to a second power level that is lower than the first power level.
