A method for manufacturing a composite structure is disclosed herein. The process uses a frame and selectively pressurizable forms. The forms define the interior members of the composite structure and frames define the exterior surface of the composite structure. Composite material is wrapped around the forms and the forms and composite material are placed in the frame. Selective forms are then pressurized and the composite material is co-cured together. A single piece co-cured fuselage incorporating a plurality of stiffeners is also disclosed in the application. The stiffeners are co-cured to the fuselage and may be in various patterns. The patterns may include an iso-grid pattern, and ortho-grid pattern, and a hoop-grid pattern.

The present invention is directed to apparatus and method for forming balloons with improved dimensional stability and balloons formed by the same. The method of the present invention provides for a very accurate control of the temperature profile of the balloon material during its making. The attributes of the balloon can be affected by how the balloon is treated during the blowing stage and after the initial blowing, i.e., heat-setting. Using the present method, the balloon will form more uniformly and evenly (e.g., wall thickness and outer diameter of the balloon). The present method significantly increases the dimensional stability of the balloon which provides a balloon that is more predictable in use. The present heat-set process also provides the means for the working length to be located more accurately on dilation catheters and stent delivery systems.

A method for producing a biaxially oriented, heat set plastic container, including the steps of providing a plastic preform within a mold cavity; expanding and stretching the plastic preform into conformity with the surfaces defining the mold cavity to form a biaxially oriented plastic container; inducing crystallinity in the plastic container by using convection heat transfer to heat a surface of the plastic container to a temperature of at least 120 °C; and removing the plastic container from the mold cavity. The PET containers produced by the method have an average sidewall crystallinity greater than about 30 %, which allows the PET container to maintain is material integrity during any subsequent pasteurization or retort process of the contents in the PET container, and during shipment of the PET container.

Method of making multilayer preforms which resist delamination and in a reduced cycle time. A first array of preforms are molded onto a first array of cores in an associated array of mold cavities, the cores and preforms are removed from the mold cavities as soon as possible without significant physical preform deformation, and the preforms are then cooled on the cores while a second array of cores is positioned in the mold cavities. Cooling on the cores prevents delamination of the preform layers and reduces the in-mold cooling time. Providing multiple sets of cores on a rotating turret further reduces the cycle time compared to the prior art use of robotic cooling tubes.

The present invention provides an injection stretch blow molding process which can form a hollow article having a thick-walled bottom wall by regulating the bottom region (18) of an injection molded preform (10) to a temperature lower than that of a barrel preform portion (16) at a blow molding station. In the process, a bulged portion (80) formed on the distal end of a stretching rod (70) and regulated in temperature is brought into contact with the inner bottom and adjacent side walls of the preform which correspond to the bottom region of the hollow article to be formed into an increased wall thickness, before start of a biaxially stretch blow molding step wherein the preform having a potential heat provided in the injection molding step is biaxially stretched to form the hollow article. The region of the preform contacting the bulged end portion has a temperature lower than another region of the preform non-contacting the bulged end portion.
