The open side of the receptacle (12) carries a flexible structure (17) which can be moved towards and away from the workpiece surface between a first position in which the open side of the receptacle (12) is spaced from the workpiece (2) and a second position in which the workpiece surface closes off the open side of the receptacle (12). The flexible structure (17) carries at its edge surface a resilient member (32, 34) whose contour can be varied to match the contour of the workpiece (2). In a preferred embodiment the flexible structure comprises a bellows-like structure.

Electrical discharge apparatus comprises a plurality of electrodes mounted on an electrode carrier and spaced from the workpiece surface to define a gap across which a train of electrical pulses are transmitted. Dielectric fluid is present within the gap and means are provided for making controlled additions to the dielectric fluid of solid particles of a material of different electrical conductivity and/or permittivity to that or those of the dielectric fluid. The concentration by volume of the particles within the dielectric fluid lies within the range 0.05% to 7.0% and the size of the majority of the added particles being in excess of 7 microns. The particles may be of a material having a relatively high electrical conductivity, e.g. graphite or metallic particles; alternatively, the particles may be formed from a material having good electrical insulating properties, e.g. glass, ceramic or certain metallic oxides.

A deburring subassembly has a controller to generate an electrical current and move a deburring tool bit from a non-deburring position to a range of deburring positions. The electrical current permits deburring of the workpiece without damaging it. A workpiece securement subassembly secures the workpiece for formation on a computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tool and also holds the workpiece in place for deburring. The electrical current is provided to a deburring tool bit. The controller thereby controls movement of the deburring tool bit the range of deburring positions and generates the electrical current to deburring the workpiece.

A multifunctional, high-performance hydrocarbon composition is demanded. Concretely, a metalworking oil composition having high workability even under a severer lubricating condition while resisting to high productivity, and further capable of suppressing deterioration of working environments or degradation of quality of a product without rise of lubricant cost, a metalworking oil composition for minimal quantitative lubrication system, which is excellent in characteristics as a water-insoluble lubricant for nonferrous metalworking and also in characteristics as a lubricant for cutting/grinding by minimal quantitative lubrication method, and can attain improvement in working efficiency and a further extended tool life, an electric discharge machining oil improved in working environments such as odor or skin roughness and further improved in processing rate, particularly processing rate in high-level finish, a rust preventing oil composition improved in resin compatibility, and a detergent excellent in adaptability with organic material are demanded. Therefore, metalworking oil which contains, as hydrocarbon base oil, hydrocarbon base oil having a density at 15°C of 0.7 to 0.8 g/cm 3 , and including a n-paraffin content of 10 to 90% by mass, an aromatic content of 0 to 3 % by volume, and a naphthene content of 0 to 20% by volume, a metalworking oil including the above-mentioned base oil and ester oil, and electric discharge machining oil, rust preventing oil, and a detergent composition including the above-mentioned base oil are provided.
