The present invention relates to an installation for dredging or deepening a bottom in or of a body of water. The installation comprises: at least one float (2); a dredger crane (8) or a suction pipe; and a screen which in use can be positioned adjacently of an operational area of the dredger crane (8) or the suction pipe or at least upstream thereof relative to a flow direction in or of the body of water, and in use prevents the dispersal of bottom material dislodged during dredging with the dredger crane (8) or suctioning with the suction pipe or deepening of the bottom. The float (2) is selectively lowerable and dimensioned to be lowered onto or into the bottom of the body of water, and in lowered position forms the screen.

In a dredging apparatus, a suction head relocates matter by sucking particulate matter from a bed of a body of water. The suction head includes a first conduit (C1) having an inlet; a second conduit (C2) having an inlet and an outlet, connected in series with C1. The C2 outlet opens to the C1 inlet via a mixing region. A third conduit (C3) has an inlet and an outlet, the latter opening to C1 via a restriction and the mixing region. A fluid may be fed under pressure through the C3 inlet and conveyed to the mixing region via the restriction, reducing the pressure of the fluid passing into the mixing region, the reduction causing matter to be sucked through the C2 inlet and conveyed though C2 to the mixing region, the matter being entrained with the fluid and exiting the mixing region via C1.

A system and method for stockpiling material on the seafloor, the system and method using seafloor collection machines, such auxiliary or bulk cutters or collection machines, to capture seafloor material to be stockpiled. The captured seafloor material is carried in slurry form over a flexible transfer pipe to an outlet at a desired seafloor site. In a preferred form the outlet is mounted in a seafloor stockpiling hood that sits on the seafloor at the desired seafloor site and captures and contains slurry from the outlet while allowing egress of water. The captured seafloor material can then be extracted to a surface vessel.
