This invention relates to piston compression ring assemblies, each of which consists of a main ring element and an auxiliary ring element. The assemblies can by themselves adjust the radial gaps between the assemblies and the liner, and the gaps between the assemblies and the wall of the ring groove in the piston. The two ring elements engage with each other on their flat sides, and there is a notch for accommodating lubrication oil provided in the engaging portion. The radial cuts in each ring element stagger each other by an angle of 180 DEG . The two ring elements are good sealing and lubricating, respectively, therefore they can reduce the leakage of gas and the compensation of oil, and have a long period of use. They can thus improve the efficiency and the power of internal combustion engine, and reduce the emission and the noise of the internal combustion engine.

To this end, grooves (14, 15) are formed in an inner circumferential surface (16) of a compression ring (11) in such a manner that centers of those grooves are positioned above a transverse center of the ring. Since the necessity of inner cutting is obviated, it is possible to enlarge the cross-sectional area of a projecting portion (12).

This invention relates to a mounting structure of a multiple piston ring for various internal combustion engines. A plurality of piston rings (PR1, PR2, PR3) are all wrapped in a cylindrical groove formed upon an outer surface of a piston (P) so that a gap of one piston ring cannot face to a gap (EX1 or EX2) of the other piston ring, namely respective gaps of the plurality of piston rings are spaced with each other with a certain distance. In order to prevent such a facing of two or more gaps (EX1, EX2) that may occur due to a rotation of the piston rings, a stop pin (3) is mounted on a piston wall so as to engage with a gap of one piston ring or formed as a convex protrusion on one piston ring so as to engage with a gap of the other piston ring. Since respective gaps of the piston rings are not faced to each other, it is possible to prevent any back pressure gas leakage from such gaps of the piston rings.
