Furthermore, the packing seal comprises at least one additional or second segment ring (20) which also has at least two sealing segments (23) with locking segments (24) positioned alternately between them. The sealing segments (23) and locking segments (24) both taper radially towards the inside. The locking segments (24) extend over a larger arc than the sealing segments (23). The sealing segments (23) of this second segment ring (20) overlay the locking segments (24) of the axially adjacent first segment ring (1) cited above. This additional segment ring (20) of the packing seal (10') is made and designed in such a way that its sealing segments (23) supported by a compressive force derived from the working pressure are reliably pressed against the seat to be sealed without any additional assistance. To prevent the sealing arrangement of the packing seal (10') from coming apart during operation due to rocking motion, a security device (40) is provided which borders a slot present in axial direction between the packing seal (10') and the groove (31) and diminishes this slot, preferably in dependence on the working pressure. This security device (40) can simultaneously diminish the radially-directed working pressure on the packing seal in the groove base (33).

    摘要: A sealing apparatus for use in sealing a clearance between a cylinder (38) and a piston (50) without using a lubricating oil. An annular groove (66) is formed in the outer circumferential surface of the piston (50). First and second seal members (68, 70) formed out of a resin material are fitted annularly in an axially piled two-stage in this annular groove (66). A third seal member (72) is fitted annularly on the inner side of these first and second seal members (68, 70). On the inner side of the third seal member (72), a non-endless expander ring (74) adapted to press the first and second seal members (68, 70) against the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder (38) via the third seal member (72) is provided. The first, second and thrid seal members (68, 70, 72) are fitted in the groove (66) so that the clearances between both ends of these seal members are staggered from one another in the circumferential directions thereof and not aligned with one another, and, therefore, the three seal members (68, 70, 72) are arranged in the groove (66) as if a single endless ring were fitted therein.
