The aim of the invention is to provide a measuring device, a method, and a shaft arrangement comprising said measuring device, which enable a robust and simultaneouly precise measurement of the torque, a torque variation and/or an equivalent variable. To this end, the invention provides a measuring device for detecting the torque operating state of a shaft (3), in the form of a torque, a torque variation and/or an equivalent variable, said device comprising a signal emitter (5) that can be connected and/or is connected to the shaft in a rotationally fixed manner, a signal receiver (7) designed to detect signals from the signal emitter and emit a measuring signal having a constituent dependent on rotational speed, according to the detection of the signals of the signal emitter. The measuring device also comprises an evaluation device (8) for determining the torque operating state of the shaft (3) on the basis of, and/or, by evaluation of the measuring signal. The evaluation device (8) is designed to carry out and/or complete the determination of the torque operating state by analysing signal constituents of the measuring signal, that have a limiting frequency which is higher than the current rotational frequency of the shaft.

A sensor with a strain gage 106 is disposed on an inner circumferential surface of a distortion generating body 100 which is a half-blindly hollowed cylinder having a prescribed thickness and diameter between a driving flange 101 to be fixed to a rotating body and a driven flange 102. The sensor converts a physical quantity corresponding to torque acting on the cylinder into an electrical signal. And the electrical signal is further converted into an optical signal by a light emitting element 113 and transmitted to a stationary section. The optical signal transmitted from the rotary section is made incident on a circumference of an optical fiber 115. The light made incident on the circumference of the optical fiber 115 is transmitted to an end of the optical fiber. The light which has reached the end is received at a light-into-electricity conversion element 131 to be converted into an electrical signal. Thus, a measured value of torque is obtained. Accordingly, torque of a rotating body can be measured in a noncontact manner with low electric power.

A torque transducer comprising a rotating shaft having first and second torque input members (1a, 1b) connected by a torsionally compliant coupling (2) thereby enabling angular deflection of the torque input members relative to each other as a function of the magnitude of the torque in the shaft. The transducer having an EMR source (5, 6) and an array or EMR sensitive detectors (7, 8). Each of the torque input members having a grating zone (101, 102) with alternating regions of high and low transmissibility to the EMR. The grating zone resides in the transmission path (90, 91) communicating EMR from the source to the array. A pattern is produced by incident EMR on the array resulting from the alternating regions of high and low transmissibility of the grating zones residing in the transmission path to the array. The pattern on the array is processed to derive the relative angular deflection of the torque members and provide a measure of the magnitude of the torque in the shaft.

The processor receives the reflected light from the mirror, detects a change in a parameter of the reflected light generated by moving of the mirror, and determines the state of the actuator based on the change in the parameter.
