摘要: A method of manufacturing patterns on the surfaces of grating elements of a torque transducer having a shaft comprising first and second rigid torque input members connected by a torsional coupling enabling relative angular deflection between the first and second input members, first and second grating elements respectively associated with the first and second input members, the surfaces of the grating elements being adjacent to each other and able to relatively displace as a function of torque in the shaft, the method comprising the steps of: forming an assembly by rotationally and axially fixing the input members and respective grating elements to the torsional coupling; mounting the assembly in a machine comprising a radiation source arranged to irradiate regions of the surfaces of the grating elements whilst a relative angular displacement between the torque input members with respect to their zero torque alignment condition is maintained; and simultaneously irradiating regions of the surfaces of the grating elements whilst the angular displacement between the torque input members is maintained.

摘要: A torque transducer comprising a rotating shaft having first and second torque input members (1a, 1b) connected by a torsionally compliant coupling (2) thereby enabling angular deflection of the torque input members relative to each other as a function of the magnitude of the torque in the shaft. The transducer having an EMR source (5, 6) and an array or EMR sensitive detectors (7, 8). Each of the torque input members having a grating zone (101, 102) with alternating regions of high and low transmissibility to the EMR. The grating zone resides in the transmission path (90, 91) communicating EMR from the source to the array. A pattern is produced by incident EMR on the array resulting from the alternating regions of high and low transmissibility of the grating zones residing in the transmission path to the array. The pattern on the array is processed to derive the relative angular deflection of the torque members and provide a measure of the magnitude of the torque in the shaft.

摘要: A sensor (10) for determining the position of a moveable surface having patterned regions (7, 8) of high and low reflectivity to EMR. The sensor comprises an ASIC (22), at least one lens, and at least one EMR source (16). The ASIC comprises at least one array of EMR sensitive detectors and processing means. The EMR source facilitates illumination of the surface and the at least one lens (19) facilitates the focusing of reflected EMR from the surface and generates an image on the at least one array of EMR sensitive detectors corresponding to the pattern on the surface. The ASIC, the at least one lens, and the at least one EMR source are all enclosed in a single housing (15) providing accurate optical alignment of these elements and integrated as a single replaceable module. The processing means of the ASIC facilitates processing of the image to determine the position of the pattern on the surface.

摘要: An angular position sensor comprising a body (1) rotatable about an axis of rotation (8) fixed with respect to a surrounding housing (5). The body having a grating element (2) comprising a surface of revolution about the axis of rotation. The surface comprising a pseudo-random distribution of regions of high (21) and low (22) EMR reflectivity arranged in the form of endless succession of individual binary bar codes. The sensor having an EMR source (10) and an array of EMR sensitive detectors (9) fixed with respect to the housing. The source irradiating the surface and the array receiving incident reflected EMR. A pattern produced by incident EMR on the array resulting from the alternate regions of low and high reflectivity on the surface. The pattern processed by a processor (11) to derive the absolute angular position of the regions with respect to the housing, providing a measure of the absolute angular position of the rotatable body with respect to the housing.
