A specific color judgment unit discriminates a specific color portion such as white or blank portion of the image data inputted from an image input unit. An orthogonal transforming process is not executed to the blank block, thereby raising an encoding efficiency. A discrimination signal is subjected to a dynamic arithmetical encoding, thereby producing code data.

摘要: A high resolution image is decomposed to a basic lower resolution replica and a plurality of supplemental information fields for use in a progressive high resolution image facsimile transmission system. The basic lower resolution replica is generated by successive decompositions of the original image into a plurality of intermediate lower resolution replicas and corresponding supplemental information fields by employing a so-called edge decomposition technique. The supplemental information fields are required in a receiver to upgrade the basic lower resolution replica toward the original high resolution replica.

摘要: An image-coding system reduces image data redundancies and perceptual irrelevancies through progressive sub-band coding. The image is separated into plurality of sub-bands ((0,0) to (3,3)). From this sub-band information, a perceptual metric, based on the properties of the sub-band filters, quantizer error distribution, and properties of the human visual system, is determined (28) which provides the maximum amount of coding noise that may be introduced to each pixel in every sub-band without causing perceptible degradation of the coded image. This perceptual metric is used to adjust the quantizer (25) used in encoding each sub-band signal. In addition, redundancy in the output of the quantizer is reduced using a multidimensional Huffman compression scheme (27).

摘要: An image data coding system, wherein an image data in a bit map form is divided into first and second groups, pixels in each group of which are distributed over the whole area of the image data in the bit map form. First and second coders (4-1, 4-2) respectively code the first and second groups of image data into first and second groups of coded image data. The first and second groups of image data in the original image data are respectively input into first and second memories (3-1, 3-2), respectively. Blocks of the first group of image data are supplied to the first coder (4-1) at first times, respectively, and blocks of the second group of image data are supplied to the second coder (4-2) at second times, respectively. Boundaries of the blocks in the first group of image data are located in different positions from boundaries of the blocks in the second group of image data, and the first times are different from the second times. In the receiver side, first and second decoders respectively decode the above first and second groups of coded image data into first and second groups of decoded image data. By composing the first and second groups of decoded image data, the original image data in the bit map form is restored.
