    摘要: A software product is modified so that it can be freely distributed while limiting its use to authorized subscribers (14). The modification (20) includes replacing calls to relocatable subroutines in the software product by calls to redirection software, which is added to the software product together with authorizing software. A table of information on the replaced calls is supplied securely to an authorization agent (12), with which the authorizing software communicates on execution of the modified software product. An authorized subscriber supplies local data specific to its environment to the authorization agent, which encodes the table in dependence upon the local data and the authorizing software and supplies it to the autorized subscriber. Tampering with the authorizing software, or different local data of others, prevents use of the table. The redirection software decodes a target address for each replaced call during execution of the software, without decoding of the table or restoring the software to its original form. Alternatively, the redirection software can be supplied to the authorized subscriber by the authorization agent.

    摘要: To ensure an effective mechanism for disaster recovery, system migration and network enlargement, a communication system (FIG. 6) comprises a narrowband-to-broadband interface (300) having a plurality of network adaptors (302-306) interconnected to a switch (314-316) that provides access to a plurality of virtual channels (318-321) supported by a broadband network. The plurality of network adaptors (302-306) are also coupled to a plurality of trunks (308-312) that each support at least one of a plurality of different communication functions. At least two call servers (324-326) are independently coupled to the narrowband-to-broadband interface (300) and are arranged to control interconnection of trunks to virtual channels, while each of the at least two call servers is responsible for controlling interconnections of group of trunks that share a common communication function within each group. Communication system functionality is therefore separated between the at least two call servers.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for providing a telephone operating company with the ability to rapidly deploy advanced services into a public switched telephone network includes a service control unit (SCU) for externally controlling call processing of a service call received on a port of a switch matrix. Call control processing is achieved through a high-speed communications link between the switch matrix and the SCU. The SCU receives a new call event notification message from the communications link and selects a service application stored within the SCU to control processing of the service call. One or more primitives are generated by the SCU and output to control actions of the switch matrix, thus controlling processing of the service call. The primitives may include a comprehensive set of primitives (instructions) for call manipulation and control at the switch matrix. The SCU may execute different service application software programs that operate within the SCU for different types of service calls that are under the control of the SCU.

    摘要: Telecommunications signals are carried on a cable (111) which carries mains electricity to a consumers' premises. A signal coupler (SC) and a subscribers' interface unit (SIU) are provided between the mains cable (111) and conventional subscribers' terminal equipment (25A, 25B, 25C) adapted for full duplex communication with a local telephone exchange. The subscribers' interface unit SIU converts telecommunications signals between this duplex form (typically analogue at audio frequencies) and time division duplex (TDD) form at a carrier frequency in the range 1 MHz to 20 MHz for coupling to the mains cable (111). In the example, TDD interface means (40) provides cordless telephony digital standard formatting/deformatting and modulating/demodulating at a carrier in the band 864 MHz to 868 MHz, and a frequency converter (50) converts between this band and, typically, 2 MHz to 6 MHz.
