摘要: A method and apparatus for detecting and correcting motion artifacts in interlaced video signal converted for progressive video display. A correction is applied where interlaced video material is determined to originate from film source, thereby having been converted to video using a process known as 3-2 pulldown. Where the video material is not a result of the 3-2 pulldown process, a check is made for the presence of "pixel motion" so that corrections may be applied to smooth out the pixel motion. To determine 3-2 pulldown or field motion, a video field is compared to the field prior to the previous field to generate field error. Field errors are generated for five consecutive fields and a local minimum error repeated every five fields indicate the origination of the video material from film source using the 3-2 pulldown process. Upon confirmation of 3-2 pulldown, the video material is modified to correct for the mixing of two film frames into one interlaced video frame by assuring that the two fields of the de-interlaced video frame contain data from the same film frame. Where the video material did not originate from a film source, but pixel motion is detected, the pixel motion is smoothed out by an averaging method. The odd and even fields of the resulting video data are subsequently combined to form a progressive video material.

摘要: A method and apparatus for automatic compensation of insertion loss in video signals transmitted over conductors is presented. The present invention is particularly applicable to the transmission of video over long lengths of CAT-5 or similar twisted-pair cables. A reference signal having a known form and strength (e.g. a pulse signal) is provided to each pair of conductors carrying a component of a video signal from a transmitter to a receiver. The receiver includes adjustable gain amplifiers for each conductor pair over which a component of the video signal is transmitted. The gains of the amplifiers are initially set at an initial level (e.g., their maximum gain) to allow detection of the reference signal. Once the reference signal is detected in a conductor pair, the amplifier gains are adjusted such that the level of the reference signal is restored approximately to its original form and strength.

摘要: A flexible electronic asset management system using Ethernet connectivity for electronic devices is presented. The invention enables multiple electronic devices (105, 107, 108, 109, 121, 117, 119) to be controlled, monitored, and accessed from any browser (104) connected to a computer network (102). A flattened stack approach is used to process network packet data. The flattened stack approach treats the network packet as a single string of data and uses the first few bytes of information to decide whether to drop or process the incoming data thus providing for faster network traffic processing. Since the lowest layer of the OSI stack has knowledge of what applications are active in the upper layers, the flattened stack allows the packet to be discarded at the earliest possible point so no processing power is wasted. The flattened stack also organizes its check/ processing based on the raw data stream thus minimizing buffer requirements and providing for easier implementation into hardware.

摘要: The present invention is a speed control for a cable retractor. The cable retractor with which the speed control is used comprises a pulley (1165) that engages a cable (1035) that may be extended and retracted. A friction element (1140) configured to adjustably contact the cable (1035) adjacent to the pulley (1165) is attached to a movable linkage. The movement of the linkage is constrained to move along a predetermined path such that movement of the linkage along the path alters the distance between the friction element (1140) and the pulley (1165). In one or more embodiments a cantilevered spring (1055) is attached to the linkage. An adjustable control, for example a thumbscrew (1060), is configured to move the spring in relation to the linkage in a manner that alters the position of the friction element with respect to the cable and/or the pressure exerted by the friction element on the cable.
