A BMP module is configured to send to a BGP module a request for acquiring a capability information set; the BGP module is configured to traverse BGP capability data stored in the BGP module to acquire all BGP capability data configured in the network device and send all the BGP capability to the BMP module; and the BMP module is further configured to send to the monitoring server an initial capability information set message carrying all the BGP capability data and a device identifier of the network device. As can be seen, by means of capability extension of a network device, the network device can acquire, through interaction between a BGP module and a BMP module, all BGP capabilities configured in the network device and send all the BGP capabilities to a monitoring server, so that the monitoring server can fully understand actual capability supported by the entire network, further providing an effective basis for deployment of and decision on the entire network.

A multicast communication method is applied to a software-defined wide area network SD-WAN. In the multicast communication method, a bit index explicit replication (Bit Index Explicit Replication, BIER) capability is deployed on site devices in the SD-WAN, a BIER header in a multicast packet indicates a site device that a multicast packet needs to pass through, and no multicast distribution tree need to be constructed. In addition, the multicast packet is forwarded through an SD-WAN tunnel between site devices, and an intermediate node does not need to sense a multicast service, to reduce a quantity of multicast table entries on a network device and accelerate convergence of the multicast table entries, so that normal running of the multicast service is ensured.
