    摘要： According to some embodiments a system and a method are provided to assign (201) a variable receptacle identifier to a mailbox, determine (202) the variable receptacle identifier assigned to a mailbox at the time of delivery, receive (203) delivery data regarding delivery of a mail piece to the mailbox at the time of the delivery, the delivery data including receptacle identification data, and compare (204) the receptacle identification data with the variable receptacle identifier determined as of the particular time. This technique may allow for automatic confirmation that the mail piece was delivered to, or, at least present at, the destination mailbox at the time of delivery claimed by the mail carrier this may provide enhanced capabilities for auditing performance by mail carriers.

    摘要： A system and method of managing multiple users of an open metering system, wherein the users have different access privileges, includes the steps of providing a user password system for vault access; programming the vault with a plurality of transition states operatively relating to the user password system; assigning vault functional access to each user password first entered into the user password system; and performing a requested vault function when an entered user password under which the request is made has been assigned vault functional access for the requested vault function. The vault is manufactured in a first state in which the user password system is not activated and the activates the user password system upon entry of an initial user password which changes the vault to a second state that accepts requests for vault functions. The vault is changed to a third state from the second state wherein the user password system remains activated but another user password must be entered before a further request for a vault function is accepted. The requested vault function is rejected when the entered user password under which the request is made has not been assigned vault functional access for the requested vault function.

    摘要： System and method for securely backing up and reliably retrieving vault data in a metering system that includes a host processor operatively coupled to a vault. Whenever a transaction is completed by the vault, the vault cryptographically signs the vault data, including ascending register, descending register and piece count and sends the cryptographically signed vault data to the host processor where it is stored in a data file assigned to the vault. Each storage of the cryptographically signed vault data is indexed to create a historical log of vault transactions. If the vault is lost or damaged so that vault data cannot be retrieved from the vault, the cryptographically signed vault data is retrieved from the host processor data file and verified.

    摘要： A method of creating an open system digital token includes sending predetermined information to a digital token generation process. A set of characters are randomly selected from the predetermined information. A mapping algorithm is applied to the selected characters to facilitate a character recognition process and a random number algorithm is applied to the mapped selected characters to obtain a random number. A digital token is calculated using the random number. The predetermined information may be delivery address information in the form of an ASCII string which is reduced by eliminating certain non-alphanumeric characters from the ASCII string. Certain characters can be modified to facilitate OCR processing. A plurality of characters are randomly selected from the reduced ASCII string to determine random positions in the reduced ASCII string. The ASCII code of the selected characters are mapped to the code of a reduced space using a mapping table. The mapped delivery address information is included in a digital token calculation of the digital token generation process.
