A belt for through-air drying a cellulosic fibrous structure. The belt comprises two layers, a web contacting first layer and a machine facing second layer. The two layers are joined together by either adjunct tie yarns or integral tie yarns. The resulting belt has a backside texture caused by opaque yarns which shield actinic radiation. The opaque yarns are limited to the second layer, and do not tie the second layer to the first layer. The two layers may have vertically stacked machine direction yarns.

A chemically enhanced paper structure (20) having a discrete pattern of a chemical composition is disclosed. The paper structure (20) comprises a cellulose substrate (22) such as tissue paper. The substrate has regions of relatively high (34) and relatively low (38) densities. The chemical composition (24) may include a chemical softener composition or a surface-active composition and is preferentially applied to the low density regions (38) of the substrate. Preferably, the low density regions (38) are discrete (36), so that an essentially continuous high density network (32) is present between the low density regions (36, 38). The paper structure is suitable for use as bath tissue or facial tissue. Preferably, the additive (24) is applied to the paper (22) from a solution (40) in an apparatus (50) comprising at least two axially rotatable rolls, i.e. an anvil roll (56) and optionally a transfer roll (54) and a metering gravure roll (52), forming a gap (60) through which the paper (22) passes, and optionally a nip (58).

Tissue paper products comprising a two component chemical softener composition and binder materials, either permanent or temporary wet strength binders, and/or dry strength binders are disclosed. The two component chemical softening composition comprises an ester-functional ammonium compound and a polysiloxane compound. Preferred ester-functional ammonium compounds include diester dialkyl dimethyl ammonium salts such as diester di(touch hardened)tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride and/or di(hydrogenated)tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride. Preferred polysiloxanes include amino-functional polydimethyl polysiloxanes wherein less than about 10 mole percent of the side chains on the polymer contain an amino-functional group.

The method comprises the steps of providing a substrate; providing a curable liquid resin; providing a second material different from the curable liquid resin; applying the second material (2410) to the substrate to occupy at least some of the voids in the substrate intermediate the first (230) and second (232) surfaces of the substrate; applying the curable resin (1520) to the substrate; curing (3150) at least some of the resin to provide a resin layer on the substrate; and removing (3170, 2550) at least some of the second material from the substrate, wherein at least some of the second material is removed from the substrate after applying the curable resin to the substrate.

Fibrous cellulose materials useful in the manufacture of soft, absorbent paper products such as paper towels, facial tissues, and toilet tissue are disclosed. The paper products contain a biodegradable chemical softening composition comprising a mixture of a biodegradable quaternized ester-amine compound and a polyhydroxy compound. Preferred biodegradable quaternized ester-amine compounds include diester dialkyldimethylammonium salts such as the diester ditallow dimethyl ammonium chloride, diester di(touch hydrogenated) tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride and diester di(hydrogenated) tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride. Preferred polyhydroxy compounds are selected from the group consisting of glycerol, and polyethylene glycols and polypropylene glycols having a weight average molecular weight from about 200 to 4000. The biodegradable chemical softening compositions are prepared by first mixing the biodegradable quaternized ester-amine compound into the polyhydroxy compound at a specific temperature range wherein the polyhydroxy compound is miscible with the biodegradable quaternized ester-amine compound and then diluting the mixture with water at a specific temperature and pH range to form an aqueous vesicle dispersion suitable for treating the fibrous cellulose material.

A secondary belt for papermaking. The belt has a framework of protuberances (20) arranged in a semicontinuous pattern to provide a semicontinuous pattern of deflection conduits (40). The semicontinuous pattern is distingushed from the discrete and continuous patterns of the prior art. The protuberances may be generally parallel, or may provide individual cells within the deflection conduits between the protuberances. Also disclosed is the paper made on such a scondary belt.

Procédé prolongeant la durée de vie de bandes de fabrication de papier contenant une résine polymère photosensible polymérisée. Le procédé consiste en l'application continue d'une quantité efficace de composés chimiques capables de ralentir la vitesse de dégradation de la résine polymère photosensible à la surface de la bande pendant l'opération de fabrication de papier. Les composés chimiques sont de préférence des anti-oxydants inhibant ou retardant l'oxydation de la résine polymérisée ainsi que ses effets de dégradation qui s'ensuivent.
