It comprises a first receive path (30) arranged to be operatively connected to an antenna (15) and a second receive path (40) arranged to be operatively connected to the same antenna (15). It further comprises a control unit (50) operatively connected to the first receive path (30) and the second receive path (40). In the CA mode, the control unit (50) controls the first receive path (30) to receive a first CC (6) and the second receive path to receive a second CC (8). In the non-CA mode, the control unit (50) selectively controls the first receive path (30) and the second receive path (40) to both receive the same single CC (6).

摘要: A method of providing an input signal to a mixer circuit comprises coupling an output signal from a low-noise amplifier circuit to a mixer input of the mixer circuit via an AC coupling circuit, comprising an inductive of capacitive coupling circuit. For capacitive coupling configurations, a coupling capacitor is configured to have a capacitance value determined as a function of a transconductance sensitivity of the mixer circuit. For balanced output configurations of the low-noise amplifier circuit, matched coupling capacitors are used for coupling the balanced output signals to respective inputs of the mixer circuit. In one embodiment, the mixer circuit comprises a quadrature mixer circuit, which may be in a balanced or double-balanced configuration. In another embodiment, the mixer circuit comprises a four-phase mixer circuit, which may be configured as a balanced four-phase mixer circuit coupled to the low-noise amplifier circuit via inductive or capactive embodiments of the coupling circuit.

摘要: An output-power threshold is selected such that one or more signal requirements is not outside a pre-determined range when output power of a polar transmitter is less than the output-power threshold. A determination is made whether the output power is less than the threshold. In response to a determination that the output power is less than the threshold, amplitude modulation of a polar signal transmitted by the polar transmitter is disabled. When the output power meets or exceeds the output-power threshold, the polar signal transmitted by the polar transmitter is both amplitude and phase modulated.

摘要: Method and system are disclosed for automated calibration of the VCO gain in phase modulators. The method and system of the invention comprises synthesizing, in a phase modulator, a signal having a given output frequency using a controlled oscillator having a frequency control input, a modulation input, and a feedback loop. A frequency control signal is applied to the frequency control input, and gain variation of the controlled oscillator is compensated for outside of the feedback loop via the modulation input. The method and system of the invention may be employed in any telecommunication system that uses phase and amplitude modulation, including EDGE and WCDMA systems.

摘要: A fast-locking phase detector includes a first input that receives a first signal (fref), a second input that receives a second signal (Presc), and a comparison circuit (1001-1011; 1101-1111) that generates an output current (I out) in proportion to a phase difference between the first signal and the second signal. An operating point circuit (1013-1021; 1113-1121) selectively maintains a first operating point of the phase detector when a phase of the first signal leads a phase of the second signal, and maintains a second operating point of the phase detector when the phase of the first signal lags the phase of the second signal. The first and second operating points are different from one another. Each of the first and second operating point causes the output current to vary substantially linearly for a predetermined range of both positive and negative phase differences between the first signal and the second signal.
