The present invention relates to a filter composed of a multi-ply filter medium which (i) has at least one textile stiffening layer (layer 4), preferably a non-woven layer, of synthetic, polymer fibers, glass fibers or mixtures of the same, (ii) at least one filtration layer (layer 3), which is attached to at least one side of the non-woven stiffening fabric, the filtration layer being made up of glass fibers, (iii) at least one further filtration layer (layer 2), which is applied on the filtration layer according to ii), the further filtration layer being made up of glass fibers, and at least one textile cover layer (layer 1), which is applied on the filtration layer according to (iii), the cover layer being made up of synthetic polymer fibers. A further subject matter are filter modules including a housing and at least one filter medium according to the invention, and also a method for producing the filter medium according to the invention and also the filter modules and the use thereof in filtration of air/gas and liquids, preferably for filtration of air flows in supply air and/or heat exchanger systems.

The combination of these three elements gives more than 3.5 log cyst removal from contaminated water, over prolonged usage of more than 2300 liters of water. The invention also relates to a gravity filtration device that comprises the filter of the invention. A method of filtering water is also claimed where the water flows first through the pleated fabric, then through the non-pleated fabric and then through the carbon block.

Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Adsorptionsfiltermaterial, welches mit biologischer und chemischer Schutzfunktion, insbesondere mit Schutzfunktion gegenüber chemischen wie biologischen Giften und Schadstoffen, wie chemischen und biologischen Kampfstoffen, ausgerüstet ist, wobei das Adsorptionsfiltermaterial einen mehrschichtigen Aufbau mit einer ersten äußeren Trägerschicht und einer zweiten äußeren Trägerschicht und einer zwischen den beiden Trägerschichten angeordneten Adsorptionsschicht aufweist, wobei das Adsorptionsfiltermaterial außerdem mindestens eine katalytisch aktive Komponente umfaßt. Die erste äu-ßere Trägerschicht und/oder die zweite äußere Trägerschicht ist bzw. sind mit der katalytisch aktiven Komponente beaufschlagt. Das Adsorptionsfiltermaterial eignet sich insbesondere zur Verwendung in ABC-Schutzmaterialien (z. B. ABC-Schutzbekleidung) sowie Herstellung von Filtern.

Thermoplastic bicomponent binder fiber can be combined with other media, fibers and other filtration components to form a thermally bonded filtration media. The filtration media can be used in filter units. Such filter units can be placed in the stream of a mobile fluid and can remove a particulate load from the mobile stream. The unique combination of media fiber, bicomponent binder fiber and other filtration additives and components provide a filtration media having unique properties in filtration applications.
