摘要: The present invention relates to a process for separating nanoplastics from aqueous matrices based on the interaction of said nanoplastics with carbon black particles, which gives rise to the formation of nanoplastic/carbon black particle aggregates that can be readily separated from the water by means of sedimentation, centrifugation, or application of a magnetic field in the case where the carbon black has been previously magnetized or where a magnetic iron material is added for interaction thereof with the nanoplastic/carbon black aggregates.

摘要: Material compositions have multifunctionality in abatement of water pollution: They are capable of removing hydrocarbons along with various types of other pollutants, such as metals and metal oxides, and phosphates and other organic material, from water streams. In certain embodiments, the multifunctional compositions are comprised of biochar particles, activated carbon particles, or metal (or metal oxide) nanoparticles bound to a cellulosic or other organic matrix material, which are adhered to styrene-butadiene-styrene granules embedded in an M-Class rubber matrix. Methods of synthesis of the multifunctional compositions and products, including filter cartridges and filters, that use such compositions are also disclosed.

摘要: A system and method for producing a modified coal ash involves collecting a bulk quantity of such coal ash, generally after it has been produced or landfilled, or is otherwise at temperatures closer to ambient, as opposed to power plant operational temperatures. In one possible implementation, the method herein involves removing carbon from the coal ash, such removal occurring by exposing the carbon to indirect heat, that is, externally-applied heat. For coal ashes with higher ash content. This removal is accomplished by subjecting the coal ash stream to heat, in one implementation, ranging between 850°F and 1200°F, and such heat exposure occurring from about 10 minutes to about 30 minutes. The range of exposure time for the coal ash is determined so as to reduce the LOI from its initial level to a level acceptable for intended re-use or recycling. In one application, the LOI of carbon in the ash is reduced to 3% or less carbon. Upon completion of the range of the exposure time, the coal ash stream is removed from the sublimation heat, thereby forming a modified coal ash.

The filter apparatus comprises a housing with an extraction media comprised of polymer coated carbon cores. Also provided are methods of treating a subject with cancer of an organ or region comprising administering a chemotherapeutic agent to the organ or region, collecting blood laded with chemotherapeutic agent from the isolated organ, filtering the blood laden with chemotherapeutic agent to reduce the chemotherapeutic agent in the blood and returning the blood to the subject.
