This melt-pourable explosive composition shares comparable explosive properties to those of trinitrotoluene and is melt-pourable and castable under conditions comparable to those of trinitrotoluene, but experiences equal or less impact, shock, and thermal sensitivity and avoids the issues of toxicity associated with trinitrotoluene. Trinitrotoluene is replaced with one or more mononitro aromatic and/or dinitro aromatic melt-pourable binders, such as dinitroanisole, which can be melt poured without presenting the toxicity drawbacks experienced with the use of TNT. The melt-pourable binder can also be combined with a processing aid selected from the group consisting of alkylnitroanilines and arylnitroanilines. The composition also includes oxidizer particles, which are preferably inorganic oxidizer particles.

Es wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von mit feinpartikulären Additiven, wie Stabilisatoren, Abbrandmodifikatoren oder Energieträgern, versetzten Partikeln von Ammoniumdinitramid (ADN) vorgeschlagen. Um für eine homogene Verteilung der feinpartikulären Additive in den ADN-Partikeln zu sorgen, werden hydrophile Additive in die ADN-Partikel migriert, indem die Additive in eine Matrixflüssigkeit, in welcher sowohl die Additive als auch das ADN nicht oder nur schwer löslich sind, eindispergiert werden und die Dispersion auf eine Temperatur im Bereich oder oberhalb der Schmelztemperatur des ADN erhitzt wird. Das ADN wird in die Dispersion eingebracht und im geschmolzenen Zustand emulgiert und mit den Additiven in Kontakt gebracht. Anschließend wird die Emulsion auf eine Temperatur unterhalb der Schmelztemperatur des ADN abgekühlt wird und die festen ADN-Partikel mit den inkorporierten Additiven von der Matrixflüssigkeit abgetrennt. Zum Emulgieren des ADNs wird die Matrixflüssigkeit z.B. mittels Rührern agitiert oder mit Ultraschall beaufschlagt.

A eutectic solution of ammonium nitrate and either aminoguanidine nitrate (AGN) or guanidine nitrate (AN) in the form of a pressed pellet is used to generate a low particulate non-toxic, odorless and colorless gas that is useful wherever an immediate source of such gas is required, such as the inflation of an occupant restraint air bag. The use of the material in the form of a eutectic totally eliminates pellet cracking. Moreover, the addition of a minor amount of potassium perchlorate to the eutectic solution improves stability at 107° for 400 hours, lowers the pressure exponent and increases the burn rate at 2000 psi.

The invention relates a fusible/castable explosive composition having reduced vulnerability, which comprises a fusible portion consisting of at least one fusible explosive and a solid portion comprising oxynitrotriazole (ONTA) and cyclonite (RDX). Said composition is characterized in that the cyclonite is a low-sensitivity cyclonite, the particle size of the insensitive cyclonite being between 315 micrometers and 800 micrometers, whereas the particle size of the ONTA is between 200 micrometers and 400 micrometers, the ONTA further having an apparent density greater than or equal to 0.95 g/cm 3 . The invention finds use in loading projectiles by means of casting.
