The present invention provides a loft flooring system that comprises: a plurality of bridging supports each adapted to bridge between an adjacent substantially parallel pair of joists of a loft floor and having a first upright leg with a foot to mount onto a first of the joists and a second upright leg with a foot to mount onto a second of the joists, and a spanning element therebetween onto which flooring boards/ panels may be laid. The insulation can be laid between the joists to a required depth rising above the joists and the bridging support mounted in place accommodating the laid insulation thereunder so that the insulation remains substantially un- compacted and fully effective.

System-floor substructure for stand building, comprising a number of bearing sections which, in combination, define a grid having rectangular compartments. The floor further comprises a number of bearing feet which are detachably connected to the grid. The bearing sections each comprise two upright sidewalls extending in the longitudinal direction of the bearing section and a top wall interconnecting the upright sidewalls. Each bearing foot comprises a horizontal bearing face and four upright members mounted on top of the bearing face and, in combination, defining the corner points of a quadrangle. The smallest distance between parts of adjacent members of a bearing foot at least substantially corresponds to the distance between the outer sides of the upright sidewalls of a bearing section. At least three of the four members have each such dimensions that they can be received between the inner sides of two upright sidewalls of the bearing sections with an at least substantially proper fit. Depending on the position of the bearing foot, a bearing section is received in the floor between adjacent members of a bearing foot or a member of a bearing foot is received between upright sidewalls of a bearing section.

A raised flooring system and methods of forming components of such a system are disclosed. Systems consistent with embodiments of the present invention utilize thin sheet metal, typically galvanized steel, base plates (14) laid side by side on an existing floor. Attached in a rectilinear pattern to the base plates (14) are stand-offs (18), which support floor panels forming the raised or false floor (which in turn are typically covered with carpet tile). In addition to supporting the floor panels, the stand-offs (18) form a network of channels where conduit, cables, hoses, pipe and similar materials can be routed. The stand-offs (18) are punched and then formed from thin sheet metal, also typically galvanized steel, and have an overall shape generally that of a truncated cone achieved with four arms that have rolled edges for enhanced load-bearing capacity.
