摘要:
An inkjet printing system having a plurality of inkjets, wherein the inkjets (10, 13) are disposed in a row and directed toward a media (7), wherein the printhead includes a drop generator (9) having an orifice plate (51), wherein the orifice plate has nozzles (30, 33) with a first and second group forming an inkjet, wherein the first group is in interleaved patterns with the second group, and the geometry of the first group is different from the second group. A stimulating device provides a signal to the continuous inkjets to produce a first and second group of drops with a first and a second breakoff length, wherein the first and second breakoff lengths are different; a charge plate (23) with drop charging electrodes positioned adjacent each inkjet opposite the drop generator. A controller in communication with each drop charging electrode adapted to supply a pulse to each electrode to isolate the first and second group of drops .

A continuous stream binary array ink jet print head comprising: an elongate cavity for containing the ink; an array of nozzle orifices (37) formed so as to extend through a wall of said cavity for passing ink from the cavity to form jets, said nozzle orifices (37) extending along the length of said cavity, said cavity being divided up along its length by at least one internal wall (33) thereby to create a plurality of sub-cavities (35) substantially acoustically isolated from one another, said dividing up of the cavity to form sub-cavities (35) correspondingly dividing up said array of nozzle orifices (37) between the sub-cavities (35) such that each sub-cavity communicates with one or more of the nozzle orifices (37) of the array; one or more actuator (39) means associated with each said sub-cavity for cyclically varying the dimensions of the sub-cavity thereby to cause the or each jet emanating from the nozzle orifice(s) of that sub-cavity to break up into ink droplets at a predetermined distance therefrom; charging means for selectively electrically charging the droplets of each jet; deflecting means for deflecting the charged droplets; and a gutter for collecting droplets not used in printing, the droplets of each jet used in printing travelling along the same path to print.

There is disclosed a device for dispensing liquids, in particular dyes or inks. The device comprises a liquid tank (5), a dispensing nozzle (7), and a liquid conduit (3) with an end connected to the liquid tank for supplying liquid from the liquid tank to the dispensing nozzle. The device is provided with vibrator means, particularly a piezoelectric transducer (4). The transducer is used for inducing a vibrating action of the dispensing nozzle, and by the vibrating action resulting in an acceleration of the nozzle, to an extent that is sufficient to cause the detachment of the liquid from the nozzle. The invention also relates to a printing head and system utilising the inventive dispensing device.

An apparatus for printing an image is provided. The apparatus includes a print head with nozzles of differing diameters. This allows multiple printing drop sizes for multi-level printing, thus achieving higher print quality at the same resolution. Additionally, each nozzle is operable to selectively create a stream of ink droplets having a plurality of volumes. The apparatus also includes a droplet deflector having a gas source. The gas source is positioned at an angle with respect to the stream of ink droplets and is operable to interact with the stream of ink droplets thereby separating ink droplets into printing and non-printing paths.

The invention provides exemplary methods and apparatus for dispensing liquids as an atomized spray. In one particularly preferable method, a liquid is dispensed as an atomized spray from a vibratable member (12, 32, 100, 214, 228, 254, 262, 310) having a front surface and a rear surface, with the member having at least one tapered hole (22, 40, 116, 304) between the surfaces for dispensing the liquid. The tapered hole has a larger cross-sectional area at the rear surface than at the front surface (Figures 5, 7-8, 11). The liquid is delivered from a supply container (74, 230, 244) to the rear surface of the vibratable member in an amount sufficient to cover the hole with liquid (Figures 11, 19, 20). The vibratable member is then vibrated to dispense at least at portion of the liquid through the hole and from the front surface. Additional liquid is delivered from the supply container and to the rear surface in volumes that are substantially equal to the volumes dispensed.
