Compositions and/or structures of degradable shape memory polymers (SMPs) ranging in form from neat/unfoamed to ultra low density materials of down to 0.005 g/cc density. These materials show controllable degradation rate, actuation temperature and breadth of transitions along with high modulus and excellent shape memory behavior. A method of making extremely low density foams (up to 0.005 g/cc) via use of combined chemical and physical blowing agents, where the physical blowing agents may be a single compound or mixtures of two or more compounds, and other related methods, including of using multiple co-blowing agents of successively higher boiling points in order to achieve a large range of densities for a fixed net chemical composition. Methods of optimization of the physical properties of the foams such as porosity, cell size and distribution, cell openness etc. of these materials, to further expand their uses and improve their performance.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur kontinuierlichen Herstellung von textilem Polyamid 6 aus ε-Caprolactam unter Verwendung von Oligomeren enthaltenden Rücklactam aus den Extraktionsstufen. Beim erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren wird das Extraktwasser aus einer kontinuierlichen Eindampfstufe in einer gezielten Weise über mehrere Stufen behandelt. Es erfolgt eine Aufkonzentrierung des Extraktwassers durch Verdampfung von überschüssigem Wasser, Starten der Ringöffnungs- und Polyadditions-Reaktionen und Abbau der Oligomeren, so dass ein Oligomerenanteil, nach der Zugabe von Frischlactam und Additiven am Ende der dritten Stufe von max. 0,7 Gew.-% erreicht wird. Danach wird das Polymer/Caprolactam und Additivgemisch dem finalen Polymerisationsreaktor (VK-Rohr) zugeführt. Wichtig ist dabei, dass der Anfangs-Oligomerengehalt am Eintritt des VK-Rohrs deutlich unter dem Gleichgewichtswert von ca. 0,85 Gew.-% liegt. Somit baut sich der Oligomerengehalt im VK-Rohr während der vornehmlichen Polykondensationsreaktion auf einen Wert von 0,65 Gew.-% im finalen Polymer auf. Die Erfindung betrifft weiterhin eine Vorrichtung zur Durchführung eines derartigen Verfahrens sowie die Verwendung von derart hergestelltem Polyamid 6 für POY-Filamente.

Sizing compositions to size fibers or particles used in plastic composites are described. The compositions may include a solution with a polymerization compound selected from: (a) at least one non-isocyanate-containing polymerization initiator (PI) for initiating the polymerization of caprolactam monomers; or (b) at least one precursor for a non-isocyanate-containing PI for initiating the polymerization of caprolactam monomers. Methods of making the sizing the composition, as well as methods of making reinforced thermoplastic composites from sized fibers or particles, are also described.

The present invention relates to a melt processable copolyetheramide made by reacting (a) one or more segments of polyamide hard blocks derived from a lactam-terminated diisocyanate and a lactam monomer, and (b) one or more segments of polyether soft blocks derived from a polyether diol. The invention further provides for methods of making said copolyetheramide, including a continuous extruder method of production.
